I just got back from Saigon/Dalat and still have flashback. I miss Saigon so much, my mind is still in Saigon eventhough I'm back at work now.

While in Saigon, I took a day trip to Cai Be/Vinh Long from Sinh Cafe. The trip took almost 3 hour one-way by bus eventhough Cai Be is only i think less than 60 miles away. I sat on the front row of the bus behind the driver and the fastest he could go was about 40km/h or 28 mph.

How difficult is it for VN to build a decent freaking freeway where people can drive without having to share the road with buffaloes, dogs, motorbikes, and whatnot? A two-lane freeway from Hanoi to Saigon is not that hard to build. If the commies could build a rat tunnel 250km long, why can't they build a freaking freeway?

And don't forget to install a few freaking traffic lights at major intersections. How could a country know how to defeat the French(well, anyone can defeat the French anyway) and American, but doesn't know how to build a decent road for motor vehicles?

If Saigon has a subway, that would be so awesome. The roads would be less congested as there are fewer motorbikes. Few motorbikes means a cleaner and greener city. Wouldn't you agree?

well.... after begging donations from richer nations, half goes to officials pockets for prostitution and gambling addiction habits and the other half goes to buying off people houses/lands below market value prices so they build their mansions and villas for wife and kids. so, what left to build decent highways???? confused.gif

I don't know if a subway is very plausible for the time being, but I think there's a highway already built and being extended by Ha Noi. I could be wrong. I went in Summer '04, and I remember being on a highway with tolls and everything.

Corruption chipped off the money allocated for construction projects resulting in poorly built roads, highways, bridges, and even some apartment buildings, etc... The corrupted officials put their own interests above those of the people. I'd love to see them lined up on the poorly constructed roads and got shot in the heads one by one! Vietnam should have strict anti-corruption laws and enforcement mechanisms that make the would-be crooks and thieves think twice before attempting to lay their dirty hands on public funds.

These crooks are violating every citizen in the country when they steal money or materials from public projects. They take away the quantity and quality of these projects. Do they think about Vietnam and the people at all when they shuffle money in their pockets?

I'm in roadway construction business myself so I know that when a public projects are being builts, we have different agencies and inspection crews checking each other works. Materials and works are checked and tested thru out the projects. When a public fund is used, you better justify every penny you used. and the media is there if you fu-ked up.

since Vietnam many agencies themselves are corrupted and the media is controlled by them, I don't how they're going to reduce corruptions in the many public projects. They say PM Dung is uncorrupted and I was hoping he would clean the system but seem like he is weak. Communist Party controll everything and they are also corrupted.

Endemic and systemic corruption is both a national shame and the Achilles’ heel of the ruling Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV). In the wake of the PMU18 scandal involving senior party members, reaching right up to no less than the son in law of the reigning General Secretary of the party itself, it is obvious the issue will not go away on its own.

Nor is it surprising that at a meeting of international aid donor, the CPV had to make solemn promises on this very front.

Put aside all the political stuffs which i dont care
It is quite hard to build a freeway with alot of motorcycles around, that is why the speed limit in Vietnam is low
forgeCool
I think in Hanoi they are building a metro system right now. The project in in its phrase II of development. So you would expect to at least see part of it in action within the next few years. I found this video on google and the simulation looks fantastic!!!

yeah, metro and subway are being built and will be built more in the future
highway as in big wide street, yes, as in 100km/h very very hard, not hard to built nor expensive, but it is not safe
