TRỌNG THỦY-MỴ CHÂU

Before his departure, he asked his wife " How could we find each other in case of a sudden separation?". "You could find me easily in emergency, I will throw on my way the goose down of my coat", she replied to him.

Convinced that the magic weapon no longer possessed its devastating quality, the Chinese general launched offensive attacks on kingdom Âu Lạc. Always confident in the power of his magic bow, king An Dương Vương went for his weapon to destroy his enemy. Realizing that the weapon had been detracted, the king fled on horseback taking his daughter with him behind, in the direction of the sea. Arriving near the shore, he called out :" God of Golden Turtle, please come for help!". The god appeared at once and pointing his index finger at the king he said "The enemy is behind you, on the back of your horse".

Thanks to the magic bow given by a god, king An Dương Vương succeeded in defeating the Chinese army. Not being able to fight in weapons on the same footing with his army, general Triệu Đà had to make peace and send his son Trọng Thủy to the court of Âu Lảc to secure a good relationship between the two countries.

Trọng Thủy succeeded in winning the heart of king An Dương Vương's daughter and so became the close adviser to the king. Despite of the affection and love he brought to his wife, Trọng Thủy did not lose sight of his mission vested in him by his father: neutralize the magic weapon that helped assure king An Dương Vương supremacy. This miraculous device was well guarded at a place known only by the king and his daughter. The latter, after many insistences of Trọng Thủy, showed him the magic weapon whose the trigger was made of the Golden Turtle's claw. Taking advantage of a moment of inattention of the princess, Trọng Thủy succeeded in unhooking the Golden Turtle's claw and replace it with an imitation. Then, shortly after that, using his father's ill health as a pretext he asked the king for permission to return to his country.

THE MAGIC CROSSBOW

The king looked back, saw his daughter with a trail of white feathers scattered on the road he had taken. Furious, he pulled out his sword, killed Mỵ Châu and followed the god of Golden Turtle to the sea. Guided by the goose down, Trọng Thủy found the body of his wife, dead on the beach. The blood that flowed down was swallowed by oysters and turned into pearls. Desperate, Trọng Thủy took his wife's body to Cổ Loa and committed suicide by jumping in a well near the tomb of Mỵ Châu.

This is actually a legend and not of history. It has been thought of by the mass majority that An Duong Vuong was a Viet King, and later he was defeated by Trieu Da - but that never happened.

Today because we have found more artifacts and revealed a newer look on our history, it is proven that (check out my post in the dynasty thread made by NQSH) Trieu Da never reigned as king, and neither did An Duong Vuong, but rather the Hung lineage continued straight until Hai Ba Trung.

So the fact is that An Duong Vuong didn't become King and thus the story of the magic bow is still legend (yet remember legend is not a bad thing - it gives imagination to children, just as long as when they grow up they know the real story) becuase he was never king. Since he was never king Trieu Da could never overtake a non-existent king (though An Duong Vuong existed elsewhere).

Therefore that little clip about:
" Furious, he pulled out his sword, killed Mỵ Châu and followed the god of Golden Turtle to the sea."

Never happened - this whole story is false - thus only a story called a weird legend and not history.

There was no king named An Duong Vuong or Trieu Da, and the Chinese did not conquer Au Lac during this period because the Hung dynasty lasted up until Hai Ba Trung. Thus My Chau was not also killed in this manner.

This is something that the masses of Viet people need to change, because up until very recently (including me) thought that this story was relatively historical (except for the magic flare and golden turtle - there are less supernatural versions), but it is excepted in history recently now, that this whole shabang is simply a shabang.

Here is a quote from "Lich Su Phat Giao - Tu Khoi Nguyen Den Ly Nam De"

Translated it means that Trieu Da informed the Han ruler that Au Lac (our nation) currently has a king (thus it was not him), and additionally the letter from Ma Vien says that Viet Law has ten differences from Han Law. Therefore Trieu Da not being a King of Au Lac is guaranteed. The Trieu lineage only were rulers of Nam Viet, which is Quang Don and Quang Tay of the current China. This conclusion has been accepted by the majority.

There is more in this book I'm reading but I'm not there yet. This part about Trieu Da is in book 2 (800 pages) , while I'm starting book 1 (800 pages also), so I have a long way to go and much to learn.
