I met this Japanese girl in my uni who told me that there is a korean girl who said koreans hate Japanese. The Japanese girl also told me that the growing hatres for Japan among korean is probably due to Japanese people's 'INCORRECT UNDERSTANDING' about the history. When I heard this, I felt I need to let Japnese people know that korean people 'DO NOT' hate Japan. but when they are asked whether koreans hate Japan or not, they will say 'yes, Koreans do hate Japan' even through they don't have anything against the country.

This is because Koreans are educated that 'Korean people in general dislike Japan because of the past' but a korean individual do not have any grudge for their past invaders because they are not the one who suffered Japanese occupation.

Now, I am a korean and I don't have anything against Japan. I have many Japanese friends and I'm very interested in Japan and Japanese culture. but if I was asked how koreans feel about Japanese culture, I would say the koreans are not very fond of Japanese because of the history.

I'm not generalising that ALL KOREANS are neutral about Japan. The koreans as far as I know have never expressed any anger for their neighbor. They just 'know' that koreans dislike Japan but themselves never have any anger for the nation, including myself. So, Don't take literally when you heard a korean person saying 'Koreans and Japanese don't get on very well'

you know that the BBC took a poll and asked around the world about opinions of Japan. Most of the world has a positive view of Japan. Now int he case of SK and China, China's negative view of Japan was 70% +. Sk's was 40-50%. the rest of the population looked at japan with a positive attitude.

whent the older generations die, i expect relations to improve. i think theres about 3 million south koreans learning the japanese language or sth? highest in teh world apparently.

btw Leed, youre an idiot.

That's nice to hear. But overhere(Britain), things are quite different. Japanese international student in general seems to be netural about korea when they are just come from Japan. But at some stage, they are convinced that 'Koreans hate Japanese' even through they never had any clash with koreans. They also seems become more interested in politics as well. I was just wondering there really is a tension between koreans and Japanese all over the world.
Jaimu-Jaimu

Well the obvious answer to your question is that as an international student, you are a minority. In other words the lack of other Japanese people (at least compared to being in Japan) means that you come into contact with more non-Japanese and thus, have a greater exposure to ideas about your country from foreigners.

Also in the university environment, you probably come across more Korean international students than Korean nationals you'd meet day to day back in Japan.

Read my post again.. I'm a korean but I didn't have many chance to come across Japanese and koreans before come to this Uni. so I didn't know there was growing tension between J/K... well.. I knew it but I didn't actually get a chance to see it. I just don't want Japanese people to misinterpret what koreans say about them because the tension seems arising from misunderstanding of each other's mentality and ways of speaking.

Most people could care less. They just want to live life, have fun and fall in love.

Japan has significant cultural influence over Korea, perhaps more so than America. While younger generations in Korea would be inclined to favor Japan, certain political provocations can neuter such positive influence quite easily.

omfg! ino said something logical! wtf! the sky must be falling...

yeah the hatred will go away over time... i love japanese culture and their language although i'm korean but my parents hate koreans.... i once asked my mum what would happen if i married a japanese (just for fun) and then she said she will hate me and would not see me anymore... so yeah... the older generations hate japanese but not me !^^
