I'm going to Saigon next week. I plan to go to the Backpackers area in Saigon and buy some pirated DVDs/CDs. I know foreigners buy them in bulk.

But I havent been back to Saigon in 2 years. Last trip, I brought a bunch of DVDs without any problems. But i'm wondering if people are still allowed to bring pirated DVDs out of the airport?

ahaha i experienced this, well the story here was last day in vn. my cousins/aunts/uncles helped pack my bags even when i told them not to. well my carry on bag was set until my aunts saw that i forgot somethings and shoved it in my carry on bag (which was not true i was going to put that in my suitcase, it contained the cds and nail clippers and tweezers and stuff). as for the cds... it was over 40-50 cds that i bought for my parents. so the first stop where you go through the metal detectors....they stoped me to find nail clippers with those lil knifes hahah they found 2/3 of them. heck i didnt know my aunt said she put it in my suitcase..only to find out it was my carry on bag....so they did a semi-full check and they saw a bag of cds i was omggggggggggg haha and that viet girl shook her head and said "too many". i asked if i could still bring them and i practically begged and then she let me through, she almost took them away hahah. next stop china, hahah woot woot there was this chinese guy that was hot took me to the side and finally found the last nail clipper, but this guy checked everything. open evey lil bag and checked my laptop smiling gahh he was so cute. but anyways he opened the bag of cds and laughed haha there was a lot! he looked at me and smiled and said okay. and my last stop toronto...they couldnt care less. main focus any liquid items. so i got home safely with them. just shove them in a suitecase and u will be fine.

I don't know about you guys, but I was stupid and didn't check to see if my dvd's worked or not. I brought them home and about half of them didn't work.

So, ask if you can use their dvd player to test the DVD's!!!

I just read that since Vietnam is in WTO, international copyright laws now are more strictly enforced.
Things like bringing back DVDs/CDs can be different than before.

Even before WTO, I got pulled out of the line for bringing back 5 DVDs in my carry-on bag. If you plan to bring them back, I recommend take out the case and put DVDs/CDs in a DVD/CD holding binder and say they are your backup copies and put them in your luggage.
