Excluding Indian there are barely any Viets/Asians here. But there is over 4 Chinese buffet restaurants though.

I live in the suburb of Fitzroy (Melbourne, Australia) with one Viet grocery store and two other shops run by Chinese. The Chinese sell a packet of cigarettes to white people for $10, and $8 for Asians.

iunno. in my school peoplee don't mix that much. you got the asians, the italians, the rest of the whites, and the black people. granted, people mix to an extent but you can tell that there are large groups of people of the same ethnicity that kind of isolate themselves.

as for outside of school, people get along fine. it's pretty much like that all across canada (save a few places.. *cough* caledonia ontario *cough*). hate crimes are virtually non existent, although now that i think of it, a few years ago a jewish neighbourhood was terroried by swastikas graffitied on windows and headstones being toppled over and stuff like that.. probably a bunch of bored teens though

The Viet population is quite sizable in Toronto, it like 40 000 people. You dont see them, because most of the people think they are chinese.

I think there is like 400 000 chineses in Toronto. You go to some place, you almost think you are in HK. And most of them speak chineses between them even younger one, that shows how much they are not assimilated. It is even worst in Vancouver, one million inhabitants, where almost 50% of them are chinese.

Only Chinese buffets? You should move to Los Angeles, CA and be exposed to other culinary delights such as Korean BBQ, Chinese dim sum, Thai tomyoonkoon soup, Japanese sushis, Indian tandori chicken, Armenian BBQ, Persian kabobs, and of course Vietnamese food.

lol natural segregation laugh.gif at my school everyone mixes, race and religion have little importance in most cases. However, in my suburb ethnics get along really well but white people are left out laugh.gif
LaiSteve66
Viet community 60,000 strong here in Houston.
KnightRider
141,000 as of 2000. We make up 31% of the Asian population here. This does not include the thousands of vietnamese living in LA.
Preydominator
~ 18 thousands here in the Netherlands.
Sirikittong
In my hometown of Cherry Hill, NJ USA;

We have considerable:

1) Filipinos
2) Chinese
3) Indian

Theres some sprinkling of vietnamese, cambodian, and some laotian in the area; but not in the quantity as there are as compared to filipinos, chinese, and indian.

As for Thai; when we moved here, we were the first actual Thai family that moved in my town; excluding the Laotians that claim to be Thai; and the Cambodians that claim to be Thai but are not.

++++++++

There is a heavy concentration of Vietnamese workers in Atlantic City tho. Extremely.

hello! what year was you born? a bowl of pho is now at least 5000 dongs, normally >8000 dongs for a decent one. A few year of economic growth has resulted in that. Prices of vegetables and meat have also gone through the roof.

Siri:

The Laotians, or the Cambodians, who claim to be Thai? Honestly, you surprise me big time! maybe you are talking about those Isan who came to the US through the Lao refugee camps in Thailand as Lao refugees, or marry Lao refugees; but once in the US they reclaim their Thai background. I have heard quite often about this situation. Or maybe the Laotians who own a Thai restaurant. But even in that situation it's unlikely they will claim to be a Thai.

As for the Cambodians claiming to be Thai, I am not sure, but from my experience with Khmers here in the US, I would be very surprised.
