Full Version: The origin of the word "Việt Cộng"
Trước năm 1975 tại miền Nam Việt Nam người ta c̣n gọi những người tham gia Mặt trận Dân tộc Giải phóng miền Nam là Việt Cộng( những người Việt theo Cộng sản ) , người Mỹ gọi tắt là VC . Tuy nhiên cũng có người cho rằng từ Việt Cộng là từ do bên quân đội Hoa Kỳ đặt ra, là tên gọi chệch ra từ "Việt khùng" (theo cách phát âm của người Mỹ) cho những con người thuộc tổ chức này, nghĩa là những người Việt Nam bị khùng.

The word "VC" is a term that has a negative connotation that American scholars and militariman used to call any Vietnamese patriots who refused to kowtow to them and be their dogs.

- etc...

"khùng" in Việt khùng means fight crazy ( determined, suicide fighting, and etc ), not mentally crazy.
