Full Version: South Korean Disregard For Public Health

The Japanese government on Wednesday announced a temporary ban on the import of Korean dumplings, some of which are suspected of being made using unsanitary ingredients.
Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare ordered quarantine stations across the nation to disallow Korean dumplings and shellfish to be imported to Japan. The announcement was made as Korean newspapers report that dumpling-manufacturing companies had used rotten pickled radish for the dumpling filling.

The Japanese ministry also plans to recall imported food if it's confirmed that there is a sanitation problem with it. According to the Japanese ministry, Japan imported 864 tons of frozen dumplings from South Korea last year, and another 437 tons so far this year.

Japanese government cannot be trusted on matters of health, believe you me. I really don't like the Japanese government when it comes to the health department.

America has had a long history with sanitation starting with the Pure Food and Drug Act and etc. The FDA (Food and Drug Administration) of America can be trusted. On the other hand, Japanese health ministry is dangerous. Remember the following incidents:

1. Japanese hospitals imported American blood contaminated by HIV for very cheap price. Important government officials and company heads knew about this and used this blood regardless. Doctors, believing they were using pure blood, contaminated many patients with HIV.

2. O-157 disease spread throughout Japan.

3. Yukijirushi, a dairy products company sold milk that was hazardous to one's health. They were the biggest distributor of milk at the time.

4. Nippon Ham, a meat products company sold sausages hazardous to one's health. Nippon Ham is also the biggest distributor of sausages.

5. Avian flu was discovered in the countryside but distributors sold their products anyway. Fortunately no one was contaminated.

6. BSE was discovered in Japan. Yet the ministry of health encouraged people to eat domestic meat. The minister himself on tv refused to eat a gyudon. A couple months later, Yoshinoya stopped selling gyudon.

One of the biggest social problems in Japan is that people can no longer trust what is on the shelves of supermarkets. It's like Japan has been pushed back into the 1920s again.
fatboi
what's that's sick. ^^ at least their trying to fix it right. and America isn't perfect when it comes to health concerns.
running horse
do you think Japan will be that way in 4 years

health wise?
VNlilMAN
no one is perfect. there's always going to be badd seeds in the group or differences between whats sanitary and whats not. I think you should rename the title of this thread, its almost like an attack to koreans. posting articles is fine but to judge ones race because of one company or one 'department' is pretty lame.

^^agree

this is such a big news in korea right now. people are boycotting dumplings and the companies that did not use rotten materials are taking damages as well. ever since the media announced the names of the companies, their stock prices hit rock bottom. it's very likely that those companies will go out of business. not to mention they will be heavily punished by the government.
kpjoon
those companies better go out of business!!! I probably have eaten their stuff before!!!!!! madgo.gif

LOL me too, i better throw out the ones in my freezer right now =p

They deserve it. Thats what they get for endagering people's health to make money.

Let this be a lesson to every other companies.

In Japan, if somethng like this happened (and believe me, it happens all the time), the company presidents would have to bow down in apology in front of the entire country.

Yukijirushi almost went out of business. Their products are no longer on the shelf with the name Yukijirushi on it because people won't buy it anymore. They changed their company name.

not the case for the korean company who's responsible for this whole incident. if this guy ever comes out in the public to apologize, he might get hanged. embarassedlaugh.gif

america's FDA is full of SH!T

they get paid money to pass something

how else are defected/infected products and food being distributed, but after like 3 months, theirs a big @$$ recall out for them ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

........ok, nice outburst.....

Anyway..... We Japanese don't hold a grudge against the Americans for nuking us. I'm mad at the people who made the decision, it was clearly an act of racism. BUT, I do no have a grudge against the Americans. I have been to Hiroshima and Nagasaki before and the people there who were survivors of the atom bombs really don't have a grudge. The only thing they have to say now is that war is bad and that we as people living today have to try to get peace to prevail over fighting in any scenario. Their message is that nuclear weapons cannot be used on anyone for any reason, not just on Japan. They told me that they just don't want something like that to ever have to happen to someone else. They definitely do NOT have a grudge.

On the other hand, Koreans have a clear grudge against Japan. Why else would a country that has a DEMOCRACY and basic civil rights deny their own people the right to listen to Japanese culture?

funny because you talk like as if koreans are dying to listen to jpop. and you labled koreans "hold grudge for long period" just because japanese pop is not getting a good response in korea. koreans prefer korean entertainment rather than the foreign ones. does that mean koreans hate foreigners? no. there are people who listen to american rock, watche nba or mlb and there are some people who listen to jpop.
have you ever been to korea? i dont think so.
why do you have to act like you know how koreans think when infact you dont know jack.

that's scary... about unsanitary dumplings

yo, but i heard that japan is crazy, in that the government tests 100% of its food. its meat products. it costs a lot of money to test everything, that they import, but they do it anyways...

or at least, 100% of specific types of meat,

i know for beef they do that. they test every shipment.

so ... ya know...

kind of picky too, probably

wonder what was wrong with it though...
barkerintokyo
Japanese government does NOT test all of the food. I think Japan just got lucky when they tested that Korean stuff and found something. Usually people don't find out about bad food or drugs until after a couple people get sick and die.

I'm not implying that if you don't like Japanese entertainment you are anti-Japan. I'm just saying that a country BY NATIONAL LAW banned another country's culture. I've never heard anything like that in any other country. Doing something like that for over 40 years is pretty amazing if you ask anyone. And by the way, I have been to Seoul.

Well, Koreans are a hot blooded race who hold grudges for long periods of time.

Can't believe I'm writing this long-winded post, but barker's assumption is so off-the-chart goofy, I can't help it. biggrin.gif

Actually, it's the other way around, guy. Koreans never hold grudges. We're known to let bygones be bygones over a couple of drinks or just say, "fu-k it, it's done and over with." What other group of ethnicity do you know of where when two guys get into a fist fight, afterwards, they become friends.

You're basing your assumptions on history and that bad history is something you shouldn't use to presume what the national character of Koreans are like. When it comes to the subject of the Japanese occupation, of course there are still lingering animosities just as older generation of Japanese still have chapped assholes about the Americans bombing hiroshima and Nagasaki back to the stone ages.

So, I would say it's the complete opposite. Japanese, for the most part, are people who generally hold deep seeded grudges and are passive aggressive. Japanese are known to repress their emotions and hold bad blood for long periods of time. So as I've told Ogumo, don't project what you see in your own people and tack it onto another group. That's just sad, man.

I just want make it clear that I'd rather you and Ogumo be just more blunt with your posts and not be the passive aggressive, trying-to-be-innocuous, dildo's the both of you constantly are. To put it simply, let go of the schtick and be blunt about your feelings without trying to mask it with this passive aggressive $hit. beerchug.gif

Don't beat around the bush, little dude. Be bigger than that. Don't try to seem non-chalant while sneaking in little jabs at certain groups. Be blunt about it.

S. Korea Exec Kills Himself Over Scandal

Sun Jun 13,11:32 PM ET

SEOUL, South Korea - The head of a food company jumped to his death after a government investigation found that his company sold dumplings made with rotten ingredients, police said Monday.

A witness said he saw the man jump from a bridge in Seoul's Han River on Sunday, a police official said. Police have yet to find the body but found his identification card and a recently written will.

He was identified in media reports only by his family name, Shin — the head of Vision Food, a dumpling company.

Last week, South Korea (news - web sites)'s Food and Drug Administration (news - web sites) announced that at least 12 companies had been using rotten radishes in their frozen dumplings and ordered the dumplings pulled off the shelves.

The government has confiscated 20 tons of what the local press dubbed "garbage dumplings."

In his will, Shin said that he faced economic difficulties with creditors following the dumpling scandal, the Yonhap news agency said. He wrote his dumplings were harmless to people.

No illness have been reported from the dumplings. But department stores have said that dumpling sales have dropped by up to 90 percent.

this isnt something that happens a lot in korea. this whole scandal is being taken very seriously in korea and its all over the media. This is a rare case in korea for companies selling foods with spoiled ingredients. It's probably the last thing korea wants the world to think about when it comes to packaged korean foods...the post above just shows you how serious the matter is.

Geez, he didn't have to die. He should have just faced the creditors. The worst that could have happened is going to jail. You can always start anew after you get out.

I believe that you do not know what you are talking about. The japanese are much more forgiving than the koreans in my opinion. What are you basing your statement on?
barkerintokyo
I agree with you ogumo, but he can ask you the exact same thing: What are you basing your opinion on?

I base my opinions on what I see here in Japan and in the international school I go to right now and the school in NY that I used to go to. Every Korean I have met is bitter about WWII. I have never met a Japanese person who is confrontational. Perhaps those who are raised under American educational system but Japanese people born and raised here are very passive.
