Hokkaido Gov Harumi Takahashi voiced opposition Tuesday to a proposed transfer of U.S. Marines from Okinawa to Hokkaido. "It would be difficult for us to accept it," she said after government officials unveiled a U.S. proposal for relocating some of the 16,000 Marine Corps stationed to Yausubetsu.

Takahashi said she has heard nothing about the proposal from the central government. She also said that the Hokkaido government has urged the central government not to make permanent the use of an artillery range in eastern Hokkaido by U.S. Marine units.

Good for her. Hokkaido doesn't want it. Now Koizumi and the LDP has to tell America that we (as in Japan) don't wan them.
Ogumo
^Good luck with that. Koizumi is too much of a @$$ kissing fool to stand up for the japanese little guy.

I wish JApan had a conservative, rightist, nationalist party.

I like the LDP, but something like the Japanese Nationalist Party (conservative, far right, nationalist).

I guess that North Korea will freak out that US is too closer to it.

They are already. There are Americans not only in Japan, but also in South Korea, heaps of them, in and around Seoul. I am not an expert on the Koreans but I am not sure if they are stationed with SK soldiers on the DMZ.
