From the first time I saw the Đàn Bàu and Đàn Nguyệt, I was addicted, but no one teaches in Canada eh? And in VN I can't find any self-help books eh? DO any of you people play and if you have found self-help could you kindly tell me where you bought them eh?
Yeh, I'm also very much interested in playing musical instruments, like the ones you mentioned, and especially DDa`n Tranh. They make lovely, soothing, and often very sad tunes, especially ddan bau. and because I love Vietnamese music and songs, I would like also to be able to play the music to them.
I'm sorry, I don't know where you can find self-help books for these instruments. Perhaps you can try searching at Vietnamese bookstores in Canada, or if you have a chance, in the US as well. I haven't tried looking myself, but here in Cali, there are many bookstores, and there might be a better chance of finding some here. If you haven't, you can also try to do a search on the web, and find things from all parts of the world. I am wondering, do you have the instruments with you already? That would be so nice. =) But of course you'd want to know how to play them too. =) Vietnam should be a very good place to learn how to play these instruments, as it is the originator, apparently. There are quite a few famous teachers of music from the Academy of Music, who are masters of, and especially teach these instruments. It would be awesome if you have the chance to learn from them. Perhaps, you would consider engaging in that experience during your next trip to Vietnam.
