I have been to VN many times already..like 10 to be exact...but now when going back there..I think it's going to be different...any tips??

10 times already ?? do u have friends over there ?? it would be easier if u have friends to take u to places since u dont live there , let me guess , ur gonna stay in Saigon ?

Where do you get the money to go back 10 times? Sheesh, I wish I had your bank account.

My sister might go to VN this summer, that would be her second time there - she was 5 years old last time. This summer is one of her few chances to actually go somewhere before she starts college..

Holy! 10 times? Man, that's more than I can imagine in 20 years. LOL. The cost for me is like $800 - $1200 per round ticket.

Well, the last time I was there was 2000, and I love going to the beach, especially during noon (when no one is around). And then go to the open markets to ăn hàng, then walk along the streets and meet people, explore the place where you live (if you encounter poor people on the streets, give them some money). Continue... then do whatever you feel like doing.

I know, my Vietnam trips are not as great as most of you. I am not really a party animal, I don't go to clubs or anything like that.

how 'bout summer of 2006 ? you can actually catch the Hue Festival. It is organized in every other even years. Tried google for Hue festival 2004 and you'll see for yourself.

Yeah, I love the beaches as much as the food too.

Beggars, sorry Dai_Viet, the last time I went back, the city has an ordinance to relocate those unfortunate people to some other places. The only charity you could do is to buy a sweepstake tickets sold by these people or some other charitable organizations. I always like the idea of giving to the first handers than fall into the wrong hands you know.

@ dalawapo, I don't party and spend money like crazy like most tourists, I think it's just a waste of money. You can give that money to an orphan and you might feel happier than party all night long. When I am in Vietnam, I always act like a Vietnamese person living in Vietnam, and not some other Viet kieu.

also make a trip back in 2010 (i think?) that'll be the 1000th year of Thăng Long (Hà Nội) for sure i'm going and the hue festivals are every year now eh which is sweet eh. visit all beaches eh. and take a trip to Đèo HẢi Văn eh - awesome scenery eh. do massive shopping in Sài Gòn eh - eerr I mean the respected Thành Phố Hồ Chí Minh - hope no công an guys are after me eh? do a trip from one end of the country to the other end eh. sheesh live there forever and cancel you're ticket back eh and use that money in VN eh - sounds good eh?

Well I visit with my family to VN alot when I was little...price was much cheaper than it is now...my dad side of the family are still there, soo I visit them alot. I will be staying in Saigon most of time...or a house that was build for us in Do^`ng Nai (que^) Hmm...so you guys don't have any tips? Last time I went a guy almost snag my gold necklace...geezze...not planning to wear one in Saigon any more. 16 yr vietkieu girl get attention alot...agrhh scary The ppl in Vietnam doesn't treat you nicely..I mean not all..but you know the seller..they know you're Vietkieu and think you don't know anything about money so they trick you... hihihi see tips like that..so got any??

i've been here for 21 years, and have never been to vietnam or have no memory since i was only 2 years old back then

hi all, just beginning of my new day at work here, wow, that's a long time man, well start save up and go back, you don't know what you miss there brother man. I went back there the summer after last, man, it was awesome, but couldn't go any where because of my brother wedding. Anyway, I'm going again in 4 weeks yeeehaaaaaaaaaa.....then planned on again sometime next summer or so with couple of my buddies.

When you go over there, don't wear any jewelry, act normal as you're live there, if you go out shopping, take some relatives with you, tell them what you want so that they can get it for you. Like me, i took my cousin with me, i let him walked in store first, then i after him, i saw a shirt, asked the lady how much for that one, she told me the price is twice higher than she told my cousin ( i look pretty much like the people lives overthere, but hehehe somehow she know that i'm VietKieu), so just exchange the currency, then let your relative pay for it.

Don't wear them little pocket or any kind of bags front of your belly (easy target and they'll know who you really are)

Food, watch out, you might run to the restroom faster you can think, bring some medicine here with you. For me, i don't get sick over the food, but my tummy bother me a little, so hehehe what i did was eatting a lot more, the more it hurt, the more i eat, it work for me.

Exploring??? find out yourself, never run out of place to go or to check out.

If you're a girl, watch out for them guys over there hehehee, if you're a guy, don't go to them places to get women, diseases and shiets are waiting for ya....donate money and do something useful...good luck and have fun. (gotta go to the meeting, see ya all later)

If you really want to do something different, i guess you could always head towards the mountain and meet the tribal people.

the tips i give all people that go to southeast asia is if you're american and use to being pampered and all that, bring brita water purifier, and mosquito repellent. also if you don't like wet, i love the wet season and the storms so it doesn't matter, make sure you know when the monsoon start. in phils it's about july to november, so i don't think it's much different in vietnam.

1.dont wear your bling bling around flashing it off.
2.always be aware of your properties . wallet. bags. condoms etc.
3.stay away from drug addicts trying to get you to choi with them.
4.say no to hookers. dont be fooled be pretty girls with short shirts at bars clubs etc.
5. give those vc police their had earned bride if you get in trouble.
6.when bargaining for prices, always start off at least 90% they price they want you to pay. work up from there. does not apply to hookers. they will want tips. j/k 2
