I am doing some research on asian women's role after marraige in the family and society.

Do most of them become housewifes or still work after marriage?

Who is responsible for handling the finance in the family?

Are boys still preferable than girls?

Feel free to add more comments. Thank you.

I can answer that for my mom only.

She works and also is a housewife.

She manages all of my family's money

My mom prefers either.

Usually for the working class, the wives would keep her jobs
Who in charge of keeping the money? Depend, but traditional it's the women role.
Boys ar still preferred, but traditionally, family take whichever gender given to them. Ideally, i think each family want at least 1 boy. I saw a lot of family in VietNam that have like 3 or even 4 female children, but they only want to stop having children when they finally have a boy.

My parents were more happy when my brother was born. But they love us equally.

I think Vietnamese women are both traditional and modernized. Go to more details later biggrin.gif

(Note: I'm from Vietnam, so what i say is based on women i know in vietnam)

There were 3 boys so my parent was very pleased when their last was a girl. They got the perfect combination. I know some family who would try and try until they hit a boy even if it is their 5th or 6th.

Answers:
- Most of them still work after marriage, whether they're white- or blue-collar
- The husband takes care of bills paying, and generally all the finance-related paperwork, but the money is still more or less flowing through the wife. icon_wink.gif
- Little or no girl/boy preference...most like few children, though. Two are usually the most they would want.

By the way, this is based on a small sample (only the ones I know living in the States), so take it FWIW.

Like American women, that really depends on the individual. Most of my female cousins are college graduates but once they got married, they decided to stay home with the kids.

Usually both.

The gender bias does exist....blame it on the Confucian society.
