Communism vs Democracy
Not really. It's really a contest between not so good (but hopefully improving) governance and a government with a sense of direction (providing for economic growth and creating trade links all over the world) vs. probably better but still diffuse and inefficient governance and a clearly democratic government which does not seem to have any sense of direction at the moment (at least, according to me). It's a pity, because both Vietnam and the Philippines could grow their economies at record rates and improve each other's chances by helping each other compete effectively in the world economy.
The world's most prosperous economies (on a per capita basis) are based on a democratic system with good, strong governance practices, and I see Vietnam as eventually fitting into this mold - There is no other mold in this world.
