Is that possible? If this is true, then by 2010, Vietnamese Americans population will be around 3 Million, which will double compared to the Vietnamese Americans population in 2000.

http://www.ailf.org/awards/benefit2005/vie...ese_essay.shtml

"As a result of recent normalization of relations between the United States and Vietnam, as well as continued high rates of poverty in Vietnam, it is expected that Vietnamese immigration to the United States will continue at a high rate, mainly through family reunification. According to the 2000 census, there are currently 1,223,736 Vietnamese Americans. They are the fifth largest Asian immigrant group behind Chinese, Filipino, Asian Indian and Korean, however recent studies have shown that by the year 2010, Vietnamese Americans will surpass all other Asian groups, with the exception of Chinese Americans, to become the second largest Asian-American population in the United States."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asian_American

"The 2000 U.S. census recorded 12.3 million people who reported themselves as having either full or partial Asian heritage, 4.3% of the U.S. population. The largest ethnic subgroups were Chinese (2.7 million), Filipinos (2.4M), Asian Indians (1.9M), Vietnamese (1.2M), Koreans (1.2M), and Japanese (1.1M)."

Thank you for telling me. Let's get back to the topic. Do you think it is possible for Vietnamese American to be the second largest Asian group, after Chinese Americans, by 2010? What do you think?

The United States wants to sponsor more Vietnamese Americans to come to the USA so that Vietnam and Vietnamese Americans can balance the growing power of China. This is one of the reasons.

Another reason is the majority of Vietnamese in Vietnam are very pro-American.

HAHA, People generally migrate for a chance at building a better living for them and their families. Last time I heard the US was talking bout reducing immigration.

Is this why the the Vietnamese population is so high cause Viets are paranoid of China's size

Are you on drug or what?

the current US economy is terrible, and many Americans are becoming increasingly conservative and highly anti-immigrant.. They don't want more foreigners to come here to compete them for jobs..
