Full Version: Do You Eat Vietnamese Food?

Nam Quoc Son Ha
I usually eat Viet food at least once a day. If it's uni or work day then I'll have breakfast and lunch at uni and dinner at home. If I'm at home the whole day then it's breakfast, lunch and dinner. LOL

At least 1 dry dish, one saucy dish and one soup.

Malaysian fish curry or chicken curry at least once a month. My grandma's an expert. beerchug.gif

Nice sig and avatar NQSH! beerchug.gif

I eat Viet food all the time everyday, though international food pops in too. I feel weird if I don't get rice in.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This is way off topic but I can't bump the old thread up so I'll stick it in here.

Dr. J.B.Kramer discovers references to the mechanical nature of the south-pointing chariot and declares, that the Chinese therefore did not invent the magnetic compass

Hmmmm?

So what now?

Thanks again vn1234. What's your name dude? I'm Frank, Vietnamese is Chuong. beerchug.gif

Huy here.

Heh - I'm vegetarian! lol

I can't live without Viet food, but I can easily eat other styles of food. I notice a lot of our parents can't handle western food. But once I realize it western junkfood aint so good. When i was younger I thought pizza was king cause all my friends in elementary school liked it - now it's so greasy and bland - especially the pizza around my area.

HA! Its hilarious - you look like your some newcomer with that sig - I'd never recognize you! - what happen to that little boy in the avatar? people are gonna say - heh

What do you define exactly as "Viet" food? Do you mean the staple rice, or rather "Viet side dishes" or what?

Rice is not even Viet staple, it's an Asian staple. You should know better that I mean Vietnamese dishes of kho, chien, xao, hap, luoc, canh etc

"Asian" staple? hmmm I dunno man...what the hell? I should know better?

Half my diet is spaghetti, bread, steak and salads...I hardly eat Asian foods.

What I typically eat in a day:

breakfast: cereal, toast, fruits, oj.
lunch: spaghetti OR bread with tuna.
dinner: mum's cooking (usually chinese stuff), somtimes steak or some other kind of meat (usually beef), potatoes.

Aren't the "types" of food you metioned rather methods than foods itself? I can easily say those methods apply to ALL Asian styles of cooking..sheesh! some people get jumpy!

If rice is not considered an "Asian" staple in the general term then what is? Yes you should know better of what I mean. If I mean rice then it wouldn't be a distinct Vietnamese dish would it?

Yes they're the methods of cooking and I used it to distinguish my meaning from your "Vietnamese" dish or rice. What I mean was the Vietnamese dishes that are cooked using those methods, I did not mean rice. Sheesh, why did you even think that I was jumpy? I was simply addressing a simple issue that was rather complicated by an individual.

The way you express yourself sometimes is very condescending.

The methods you metioned are also applicable to Chinese cooking - lots of steaming, stir frying and deep frying.

Rice IS a Vietnamese staple....I think you read it the wrong way in my last post, you read it as if RICE ORIGINATED FROM VIETNAM.....

Viet cuisine seems anchored by rice, every meal is rice or rice noodles.

Well I'm sorry if you feel that way. I think that's the only way to get my message across in the mids of "confusion". Perhaps if you're a girl I wouldn't be so condescending embarassedlaugh.gif

Yes I know the methods I've mentioned earlier applies to Chinese cooking... and alot of other cultures' culinary. However, I clearly stated "Vietnamese food" and the fact that this is in the Vietnamese Chat section couldn't be more straightforward and clearer.

No I did not read it as "Rice originated from Vietnam", I read it as you saying that rice is a Vietnamese dish. When people talk about Vietnamese food, I don't think they're talking about rice, they're talking about the dishes. Rice is obviously not a "Vietnamese" staple but an "Asian" staple and even a "Global" staple if you want to go that far.

Yes Viet food is built on rice dishes and rice related products such as bun' etc. That does not mean that when people talk about Vietnamese food, they're referring to rice. Rice rather have complementary role in Vietnamese food.

Hmmm the only type of beer that I can tolerate is Heineken. I'm cutting down on alcohol consumption though. Now only rarely drinks when going clubbing.

Well if you're homophobic, I think you need to open your mind abit more. I've got over that stage. Fear, hate and anger certainly are not good for you. Drop it. icon_wink.gif

Err no, I seriously love beer, perhaps its due to the fact that I use to hang around with a lot of Aussies and the area I lived in was prodominantly Aussie...it doesn't prove jack...as I said the alki content of lolly drinks are 12-20%, some more...
beer is usually 5-8%

Guiness? It's OK...

Heineken is alright but a bit light...Cascades is my fav.

But back home in MN, yeah, it's Viet all the way! So the first thing I get back from school is a good bowl of rice with nước mắm. Hehe!

bleck! meat! you people are gonna get colon cancer or something.

Why meat is a no no:

1) It's a four letter word - jk
2) Doctor's never say: "Ok go home gets lots of rest, fluids, and eat plenty of medium rare steak so that the blood squirting out under your fork will spill into your eye and speed your healing."
3) It's mean.

bleck! meat! you people are gonna get colon cancer or something.

Why meat is a no no:

1) It's a four letter word - jk
2) Doctor's never say: "Ok go home gets lots of rest, fluids, and eat plenty of medium rare steak so that the blood squirting out under your fork will spill into your eye and speed your healing."
3) It's mean.

I tried being a vegetarian for two weeks, no meat, or seafood but it was so hard, and my dining hall sure doesn't make it easy. What's your secret vn1234?

Heh! Secrect???

Make sure the food is good. Most people don't know how to convert their cooking from meat to a pure vegetarian cuisine, so the taste is a shock to most newcomers.

If you don't cook or have someone in your family that cook vege well then you gotta find a decent restaurant or else you'll bomb out like most people after a few days.

Most people are afraid vege is like eating rabbit food - well that all depends on your luck on meeting tasty meals.

Also depends on your motive: is it for the care of animals, health, or just fun?

#1 and #2 keep you stuck longer. I used to do track & field for the city and vege helps me keep fit.

Also I heard nasty results that can come from eating meat (many examples on the www) and the reverse from eating vege diet.
