Before KCAL, Leyna was a news anchor and reporter at KCRA in Sacramento. She has also hosted a quarterly program on Asian American issues. She was nominated for an Emmy and won several first-place awards for her special on the 20th Anniversary of the Fall of Saigon, "Vietnam: The Journey Back."
Leyna was born in Vietnam and came to the United States in 1975. She earned a degree in Mass Communication from Webster University in St. Louis. In St. Louis, Leyna did "Morning Drive" for jazz radio station WEBU, and was a substitute teacher for grades K through 6.
In 1987 Leyna was chosen "Miss Asia," and in 1996, she was named "YWCA Woman of the Year."
Leyna is a single woman whose hobbies include music, cooking and martial arts.
Leyna works extensively with at-risk youth and even has a non-profit foundation that benefits underprivileged school children."
