I know, I know, I can find these on the serach engine or something, but I'm too lazy to crank it up. My cousin oversea doesn't keep me updated on these issue b/c its difficutl to understand or inquire. When we see eachother soon, we'll be pulling teeth understanding eachother, I'm sure.
Anwy, tell me if it doesnt' require much mental exertion, or <the need for search engines> wha tkind of government is vietnam nowadays. is it strictly communism, or has it loosens itself to be slightly capitalistic, like China?
Who is the leader of Vietnam, or is it run by a group of people? how is his/group treatment of the people?

That's a very good pedagogical question. In theory, Vietnam as well as China are supposed to be socialist countries with a revised economic system from communism to free market, while Cuba and N. Korea are simply controlled by a dictatorship.
There are alot of things Vietnam and China do that allow these two countries to claim that they are being true to socialism but from what I can see, they are deviating away from their political ideals.
For VN, they are starting to privatise a lot of things like land, bus lines and now they are allowing the construction of private schools too!

In addition to what drunk_on_tea has already elaborated:
Real power in Vietnam remains in the hands of one hundred something members of the Vietnamese Communist Party's Central Commitee. The head of the communist party is Mr. Nong Duc Manh, a northerner and Tay ethnic.
The admistrative government is however led by PM Phan Van Khai, a southerner and a reform-minded member of the central committee.
