Are these things like bars or what?? Or do they just plaster these in places where they don't want foreigners. I also heard technically those signs they put up are illegal in Japan due to some type of discrimination law they have but it's pretty much ignored.

Although I take some offense because I'm obviously not Japanese, I'm not surprised at all either. Its a part of their society, just like segregation was in America and South Africa just a few decades ago.
Times will change and we will see an end to these signs, only question is how long will that take, quite long if you ask me. Oh well.

these foreigners are most likely white hostesses working in japan. there are a lot of college students from US, Australia, Canada, and other european countries working as hostesses to make a quick buck. this phenomenon is well documented in japan. someone earlier said that russians have trouble getting in one of these pubs, well, if you are a russian woman with blonde hair it'd be harder not to go in one of these pubs, as japanese would literally throwing money at you. the japanese only signs probably doesn't apply to europeans as it does to other asians.

This signs were famous in the 2002 World Cup... people were barred entry from bars and $hit. I guess cuz Japanese people are wary of foreginers since foreigners commit violent crimes and stuff.

It's wise NOT TO TAKE what you read on the internet at face value without digging in more details of reported cases.
Non-Japanese " gaijin " white foreigners often don't follow local etiquettes led to present sega of " Japanese ONLY " signs at some public bath houses. Some Hostess bars have their reasons for not allowing " gaijins " in their premise much due to their behaviours.

I wonder what would happen if a big-bucks Japanese businessman came in with a big-bucks non-Japanese businessman flashing big-Yen around. Money and power (maybe more the power aspect) probably trump racism in the hearts of the owners of these establishments. Seems like the same-old-same-old in Japan (and various other places in the world.)
If other countries with a dominant ethnic group, Germany as an example, didn't have strongly enforced laws against blatant racism and hate-speech, you would probably see more of this in other places around the world. Speaking of weak hate-laws, I've heard of places like this in Russia that openly exclude Asians, Africans etc. Have to search for articles of read in the past about this.

post them up. Russia is not an open society nor is it a liberal democracy. Japan on the hand is different. There are different standards.
