Actually I heard these are in the rise... icon_sad.gif

I guess cause there have been crimes committed by foreigners.... icon_sad.gif icon_neutral.gif

Jasel
Are these things like bars or what?? Or do they just plaster these in places where they don't want foreigners. I also heard technically those signs they put up are illegal in Japan due to some type of discrimination law they have but it's pretty much ignored.
Jarhier

Ino, since when you've been following Shintaro Ishihara? icon_confused.gif

Although I take some offense because I'm obviously not Japanese, I'm not surprised at all either. Its a part of their society, just like segregation was in America and South Africa just a few decades ago.
Times will change and we will see an end to these signs, only question is how long will that take, quite long if you ask me. Oh well.

I think they'll be damned to learn it harder than the USA and South Africa did, given the history.
sekushii
It sucks. yeah

But there are places in japan where GUYS are not allowed too
Takashi
Not too bothered, those people are generally looked down upon for having the signs anyway.

umm. that guy should be excluded from everything

i can see why they disallow whites from clubs. they would rather not want it to turn into a low class meat market
rahul1000
Too bad that pic doesn't work now. icon_confused.gif
I had thought that whites would have little to no trouble and people like Chinese, blacks, Russians and Filipinos had trouble getting in. Sorry if I'm wrong.

Depends on the situation. I'm not going to get pissy about this when firstly it isnt incredibly common and secondly isnt supported by the people in general.

It CLEARLY says "Pub"

which is a BAR, that serves ALCOHOL
Mr. Tree
well... at least if you wanna bomb some nationalistic japanese, we all know where to go....
BahDukeplayer
Those signs are racist and discriminatory. Japan is such a backward country, just like how they read books backward, and drive on the opposite side of the streets.

I would say burn that muthaf_cka to bits! If that bar tender has no respect for other people, he should go (along with his business)!
Ino
Nationalism in Japan is on the rise.. we see it everyday in thier entertainment politics etc.... These signs aernt isolated incidents either.. they gut who takes these pictures travelled the whole of Japan and found it in a lotta onsens, bars, prefectures....

these foreigners are most likely white hostesses working in japan. there are a lot of college students from US, Australia, Canada, and other european countries working as hostesses to make a quick buck. this phenomenon is well documented in japan. someone earlier said that russians have trouble getting in one of these pubs, well, if you are a russian woman with blonde hair it'd be harder not to go in one of these pubs, as japanese would literally throwing money at you. the japanese only signs probably doesn't apply to europeans as it does to other asians.

hey, just becuase the dude is ugly doesn't gives you the right to trash white people~
Ino
This signs were famous in the 2002 World Cup... people were barred entry from bars and $hit. I guess cuz Japanese people are wary of foreginers since foreigners commit violent crimes and stuff. icon_sad.gif

example.. 3 U.s. servicemen rape a 12 year old girl in Okinawa icon_sad.gif icon_sad.gif
korean_turtle87
Okinawans shouldn't have to suffer this occupation. the bases should be in Japanese islands, not Okinawan islands
Ino
Sad yes...

Okinawans have suffered much... first US soldiers kill most of them now they are are so many cases of rape icon_sad.gif

The situation is OVER-BLOWN to any stretch of imagination.

It's wise NOT TO TAKE what you read on the internet at face value without digging in more details of reported cases.

Non-Japanese " gaijin " white foreigners often don't follow local etiquettes led to present sega of " Japanese ONLY " signs at some public bath houses. Some Hostess bars have their reasons for not allowing " gaijins " in their premise much due to their behaviours.

I guess. I would take a $hitake on a hole in the bathroom floor.

I wonder what would happen if a big-bucks Japanese businessman came in with a big-bucks non-Japanese businessman flashing big-Yen around. Money and power (maybe more the power aspect) probably trump racism in the hearts of the owners of these establishments. Seems like the same-old-same-old in Japan (and various other places in the world.)
If other countries with a dominant ethnic group, Germany as an example, didn't have strongly enforced laws against blatant racism and hate-speech, you would probably see more of this in other places around the world. Speaking of weak hate-laws, I've heard of places like this in Russia that openly exclude Asians, Africans etc. Have to search for articles of read in the past about this.

post them up. Russia is not an open society nor is it a liberal democracy. Japan on the hand is different. There are different standards.
