Kim Vu, a 17-year-old Vietnamese-American student took first place at this year’s Kids Philosophy Slam, competing against 4,400 students musing on the theme “War and Peace” to win the title “Most Philosophical Student in America”.
While rivals focused on the inevitability of war, Vu, a student at Freehold High School in Colts, New Jersey, won by focusing his slam on the need for peace.
Vu’s rivals at the final round were New Yorker Nicholas Post and Virginian Jason Popps. Post argued that both peace and war are the products of men’s inherent character and are unavoidable.
This year up to 75% of the contest’s entries argued, like Post, that war is unavoidable.

It's about time Vietnamese start talking about peace.
