omg so during my chicago visit i somehow ended up in a ghetto zone while trying to find a subway station. (i wasn't alone, was with my parents thank goodness ). anyways, it was like around midnight right, and all of a sudden this old black man came running at us with his cup of money (apparently he thought we must have money cuz we all carried a large bag but thats cuz we're tourists ). first he started mumbling to my mom, and my mom started running saying "aiya! jieu ming ah!", then all three of us had to ran for a block until we lost him it was the scariest moment of my life there were also a group of drunk men and they started hitting on my mom! how do u handle this kind of situation? cuz this kind of stuff usually never happens in Florida

Just ignore them and walk away. Thats one determined beggar. I remember a beggar downtown asking me for money, I walked away from him, and he started yelling at me calling me broke and stuff. Looks who's talking? Best bet is to ignore them, if they threaten you, chances are low, but just scream, and aim for "the zone".

today i was going to the loop and took the train. the guy next to me was seriously demented. he kept on talking about this devil book the guy(also demented since he reading a book about the devil) across from him was reading. like do you worship the devil? have you seen the devil? i saw the devil. he has blood shot eyes and so on. everyone was ignoring him. then this smelly bum walked across the train asking for a donation of some sort creating a scene. finally, when i was getting off the train, another weirdo starting dancing(literally hopping) and sing loudly on the train. all this took place at the same time and within 10 minutes. this place is F- up!

I'd recommend that you and your parents not walk around a city you're not too familiar with around midnight. You need to learn what areas are safe and which are not. As for the begger chances are it was just some bum trying to beg his @$$ off. You have less to fear from beggars than from people who are just out to rob people period.
