Well if Vietnam continues to improve in a linear manner, then it might not be such a bad country to live in. Although I doubt that Vietnam would be able to achieve the currently high standard of living that people in the US are enjoying.

Vietnam will need at least 20 years to catch up with her "Asian Tiger" peers' current standard of living and at least 35 years to catch up to the more prosperous first world countries.
It doesn't really matter in the economic point of view. As long as Vietnam grows at a good and steady pace for the next 20-30 years, its all good whether she could catch up to other countries or not. I'd rather live in a fast-growing 3rd world country (such as Vietnam) than a declining first world country (such as Japan). You wouldn't want to live in a cynical society with bad news after bad news like Japan would you?
