Full Version: Why I am thanking the Vietnamese people

True story that happened to me yesterday on May 19, 06. I was swimming at the beach with my friend and we didnt know what rip currents were before this or hadn't thought about it at the time. Well as we were swimming, we started to go farther and went deeper, as soon as you know it, the water was pulling us in deeper and wave after wave kept going over our heads. I was beginning to panic because i could not swim and was being pulled deeper. Thats when I tried to ask my friend for help but risking his life to save me was something I knew was a danger to him the most. I thought about dying at that instant and started to give up fighting for life. I began to yell for help and my sister who was watching from a distance started screaming and calling for help also. IT WAS lucky that a Vietnamese surfer was nearby. He came to my rescue and lifted me up on his surf board. That is why I have changed my views up until now on people in general, I no longer hold any grudge on any Vietnamese person no longer. No matter the political or general circumstance, my views have changed. Thank You.....for saving me and my friends life. I owe an apology to the Vietnamese people on this forum that I have bashed or instigated any threat. I want to warn others who goto the beach about rip currents too. If you ever decide to swim at a beach, swim near the post of a lifeguard who is on duty. If you happen to get caught in a rip current, remember to stay calm and swim the same direction as the shore, parallel to the direction of the rip current.

I am also a Cambodian, I acknowledge that our two people do not get along. However, I wish for this to change, for a better future and a brighter South East Asia.
Long live Vietnam and Cambodia in peaceful cooperation.

My life flashed before my eyes yesterday, and I have learned a great deal.
Thank You my Viet brothers and sisters.

tsk, tsk.

Another example of kunomchu's hypocrisy. kiss.gif

What hypocrisy? I don't speak for Vietnamese people because I am not vietnamese. I am Chinese. You on the other hand pretend you know much about the Chinese people and their mindset yet you don't speak Chinese nor do you understand much about the Chinese people. So do us Chinese members a favor and stay in Viet Chat.
uRugly
but he is chinese not viet. StephenDedalusFromAsia, u are welcomed to stay in the Viet Chat lol biggrin.gif
kunomchu
He may be blood Chinese but he is culturally viet. Just look at his response to this thread. Its okay though. He just blabbers too much about how much he knows about Chinese culture.
uRugly
he feel closer to his chinese side so we dont need him biggthumpup.gif
how about ask him not to post in both chats?just kidding

Mugen:

Well, at least, you were honest enough to say what you thought of us. When people are in the kind of trouble you got yourself in, I hope no one asks "What are his opinions?", etc. and I hope we all do the right thing. In the meantime: welcome back to the world of the living, dude.

The hypocrisy I was referring to is you telling someone to stay in a certain section whilst you do not do the same yourself. I was just teasing you too. kiss.gif

Like I said before, you speak on other peoples' behalf as well. One example was when you were saying that the majority of Muslims support Osama Bin Laden's actions. What makes you think you can get away with saying something so offensive, assumptious, and inhumane to the Muslim people?? Most of them are apolitical who just want to practice their faith, not support the death of over 3,000 people.

It is really not that black and white Kunomchu. Believe it or not, the Chinese people I know in real life consider me Chinese, not Vietnamese. I practice humility and say I am Viet since I cannot speak any Chinese, but they disagree. Your opinion does not matter. The Chinese members are not one monolithic group that thinks the same. I only piss off the extreme nationalistic ones, but I do make a solid contribution to the Chinese section and over half of my posts are in there.

I make plenty of posts about Chinese history, politics, art, architecture, current issues, and I dare say with more factual detail than your posts. People like Elysee respond to me on a rational, mature basis, correcting my errors and elaborating on what is correct. China would surely become a rich, powerful, and great nation if most Chinese were level-headed like him.

Thanks for the support Urugly. What's that forum you want me to join?? It seems like there's barely any people there icon_smile.gif

i'm glad u got ridden of ur hate, it show's that what you read in history books and what see on the news does not mean everyone from that race is like that. i hope your frightning experience is a lesson to you, that an action of one person should be a judge of character of that person, not their whole entire race, regardless of good or bad experience.

!!! hes blood Chinese???? man i am so confused....wasnt he adopted by Chinese parents?

Im glad youve finally realized that directing hate or holding begrudgement against a certain race of people for something that an entire race of people shouldnt be held liable for is really an unworthy cause. Theres many people like that - with prejudices just like yours. Its just sad to know that itll take a life and death situation for some people to realize this.

no need to hate we're all nice ppl...and yur story proves it lol ^_^

I'd like to understand the "grugde" you held. What was that grudge and how reasonable it was, viewing from your new position.

You should thank the Viet guy instead of thanking the whole viet people. I am sure there would have been some Viet people that would have let you drown.

Glad that your are safe! Thanks for reminding us about the water. The weather is getting hot and people will be thinking about getting into water either its the ocean, river, or the pool. Play it safe!

Also glad that you've realized that not ALL Viet are bad. And not all Viet are good either, same to any other ethnic groups. There are lots of good people out there.

It was from a political stance....the whole issue of our puppet government and such. It stemmed from this and grew into hatracy it has now washed away.

I did in fact thank the one single guy, but I wanted to owe an apology because of my realization.

Yeah but the point of this is really that I wanted to warn others. It wasn't really a race issue thing. The point is that we are all human and when in need to help one another we do it no matter race or ethnicity. There wasnt a label on me that said I was khmer or the guy who saved me was Viet. We are the same people, and in reality all my best friends are Viet. LOL....im just different on AF for some reason.
