@ Khmers, Viets,

Regarding the future of SE Asian countries. Thing that I fear that has came too close for comfort. It not war but potential new conflict, The Damages are too great to ignore. I could not Imagine picture of SE Asia in the next 20 year or so. The problem is no one dare to stand up.

So, What is it?. Well, China started and has plans to build a dozen dams in upper Mekong river to meet its energy demand as China economic growth. So what that mean? It will cause great damage to Cambodia,Vietnam Eco system, Agriculture, Fishery,(fishes simply disappearing Tonlesap lake). fertile lands once great for farming start degrading and no longer provided by Mekong river. Economically, $1B or more is lost, affecting millions of lives. further more this could lead to famine, war .... In my opinion Cambodia will take a heaviest toll. The reservoir of Mekong is at its lowest level. The Fishes are now less and less in Tonlesap lake and it used to be one of the richest fishery site in the world. well, we will see ....

I say it not because I hate China But base on Facts and concern

I wish they didn't have to build those dams because it is causing too much of a problem right now in SE Asia. I heard they want to build like six more dams along the mekong river. Arrgh... that sucks man!

Vietnam is also building dams that are affecting Cambodia and many Cambodian farmers have less crops because of Vietnam's dams and have already petitioned the Cambodian government to persuade the Vietnamese government to stop. I doubt the Cambodian government will do anything they do whatever Vietnam wants.

Looks like Cambodia is the victim of China and Vietnam's modernization.

Because of the Mekong river, Vietnam is the 2nd largest rice exporter, but we can now kiss that goodbye because of the new dams that are being build.

The Chinese are building dams and they don't give a damn how other countries feel about it. You don't expect to get respected if you don't pay others respect.
Byron
The dams aren't stopping water from going into the mekong delta, the biggest worry is the pollution and the lack of fish since they are being trapped. But it will hurt Cambodia and Thailand the most though, hell it's already hurting Thailand considering they have had the lowest water levels since the dams were being built.
