Rescue stalled, Singaporean ship detained in fatal accident
The search for seven missing fishermen off the southern Vietnam coast was stopped Wednesday due to adverse weather, Tuoi Tre reported, adding a Singaporean ship is suspected of hitting their boat.
Surviving victims on the fishing boat said they had been hit by a foreign cargo ship in Vietnamese waters Monday evening. One died of serious burns after the gas tank exploded.
The foreign vessel did not stop to help but, instead, fled.
Of the six vessels under suspicion, Singapore-registered Syma Pride is the prime suspect since it has some marks on its hull.
The vessel was detained in Ba Ria – Vung Tau and sent on to Ho Chi Minh City for further investigation.
