Hey guys, there's this weeklong contest taken place at Van Mieu Quoc Tu Giam for little kids (both girls and boys) where participants take examinations just like in the olden days and eventually get elected to be a Tra.ng Nguye^n scholar. How neat and cute!!! I think they are in the final round of the examination. I hope this is a tradition that will continue.

Little Scholars: awww look, this little guys is being walled off.

There is an annual contest called Giai Trang Nguyen Luong The Vinh in Saigon. My cousin in Vietnam is chosen to compete in the city-wide competition. Something like less than 3000 people are chosen all over the city of 7 million people. They wear traditional costumes of Vietnamese scholars and the winner will be wearing the clothes of Trang Nguyen and paraded around the city. Not to mention the prizes and prestige.

Wow how cool! That's good, it's a national "popular culture" tradition then. The winner should get a small turtle (not a live one of course) and have his/her name engraved on it! I'm guessing Luong The Vinh was a famous scholar?
Does your cuz have pictures NQSH?

My uncle will be taking pictures when she goes for the exam, I'll scan and post it up then.

Rock on. She will look so cute in the traditional scholar attire. What's the age range for the contest?
Nam Quoc Son Ha
I'm not sure but she's in year 4.
