Some time ago on AsiaFinest, people mentioned that the japanese ancestor's were mostly koreans/proto-koreans. I have never heard anything like this before, in my previous knoweldge I've only heard that they were mixed between chinese and koreans, or were chinese who colonized japan.

So I looked up the internet to find more information about this. Unfortunetly, I am mostly empty-handed. The best information I've found was a story that Prince Homunda (of paekche) led an expedition to japan, fought off the yayoi people, and set up the Yamato kingdom. However, this information is very unreliable, because the japanese have a story of their own, that Homunda's mother lead an expedition to korea and conquered Shilla kingdom (before Homunda was even born). Both the japanes and korean historians (they both sound like supremacists to me) claim that their version of the story is true. I don't know which of them to believe.

And assuming that japan are descended from koreans/proto-koreans and that it has nothing to do with Prince Homunda. What records are there to indicate this? When did they come over? Why did they come over?

And are the Ainus descendents of the yayoi?

I did. The Japanese are basically Koreans of ancient times who migrated to Japan bearing the mainland metalworking rice-farming culture with them.

There are no real historical records for the migration - only anthropological studies.
The bulk of the early migrants are believed to have made the migration from Korea and Northern China to Japan in the period between 250 BC and 300 AD.

No, they are descendants of the aboriginal people of Japan.
