Vietnam to host first Asian cloning symposium

The HCM City University will hold the first symposium on productive biological technology in Asia in HCM City on April 12 – 13 for Agriculture and Forestry and Japan’s RIKEN Centre for Developmental Biology.

Scientists from Japan, the Republic of Korea, Vietnam and Thailand that worked on cloning of cattle, will present reports on the applications and technology in the field of reproduction, for example cloning, Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), in vitro fertilization (IVF) and in vitro diagnostic (IVD), germ cell, ES cell, and transgenics.

How come? I'm all for it, even though my catholic parents might slap me for this haha jk.
Nam Quoc Son Ha
Perhaps you wouldn't mind if someone decides to clone your dad or your mom. You know that the little kid will be exactly the same as your parent, what will you do? What I'm saying is that cloning has many moral and ethical implications. And we don't even know the medical side of it and how it would affect the clone. Dolly developed arthitis roughly at the same time as its "mother". That just shows you that even though they might look younger, they are approx. as old as the original.

i think it's pretty creepy.
drunk_on_tea
But because we don't know much about the possibilities of cloning that we should continue on its exploration. There are strong pro and con arguments for cloning and environmental factors make the "clone" somewhat different even though genetically and biologically, it might be the same to its direct progenitor.

h3ll yea! it's the next step in evolution embarassedlaugh.gif

the clone has the same dna as its "mother", but they're not 100% alike 'cuz dna are expressed differently in different people.. so even if u clone ur parents, they may be completely different from ur parents.. dolly doesn't look 100% like its mother.

yes, the body of the clone is young, but its dna is as old as its mother. there's a bit of dna that are cut off from the strand of dna for many cells division [there's a lot of things involved, but that's basically the result]... that's why the elders tend to have more health problem.

I am against cloning!

^ i dun think cloning is something to be against.. you should be open-minded and let others do what they want!

Preach on sister. icon_smile.gif I don't have anything against cloning or science for that matter, and it's okay if the ancestors of humans were apelike too hehe.

That was a different article above the symposium article Huaren.

The symposium talked about cattles and germination.

i dun think cloning fruit would be hard.. i think they have.. i just hate news -_-"...

Why would you want to clone fruits when it can be abundantly grown hehe. Has there been fruit cloning though?
No problem Hy, I will never understand science as a subject (too difficult to digest) but I will support its progress.
ngo.ngochy
yes, there has been, well, i do a little search for ya icon_smile.gif .. the article is about 5years old.. lol

Cloning is againt all and everything of evolution and nature at its best. Cloning should be banned before it reaches to stage of unstopable!
Agent Smith
Nature has been cloning organisms for billions of years. For example, when a strawberry plant sends out a runner (a form of modified stem), a new plant grows where the runner takes root. That new plant is a clone. Similar cloning occurs in grass, potatoes and onions:

I am in full support of biotech and genetic engineering. I think humans are greatly limited, far more than we think we are, and must evolve into more higher beings. Since there seems to be no hope that this will happen naturally, we must genetically engineer new breeds of humanoids who will possess significantly superior mental and physical capabilities. They will compete with and, very likely, gradually phase out the obsolete humans, following which they will continue the process, and create even more superior versions of themselves to carry on the journey to even higher planes of evolution.

yup, biotech is actually not very new.. just now they're working on the dna level.. and it's not against evolution.. u r just making a copy of an original and trying to learn how dna affects us and stuff... anyway, i think the human genome project is complete (not so sure), but once the parents can check the dna of their unborn child and decide to have abortion or alter its dna 'cuz of a certain body characteristic ie black hair/brown eyes, it'd be sad.. but why ban it if people can learn from it.. btw, i think war is against humanity but i dun see any country is banning that..

i'm with you, but u sounded very scary damo... 'cuz if humans are more superior they maybe more competitive.. u never knew... and about genetic engineer, i think it's only affecting the physical traits.. u can create someone smarter, but you can create someone with less diseases...

They should be more competitive ... that's the idea. They should be intended as our replacement.
And intelligence is a physical trait.

Of course paleohumans would be resistant to the idea of possibly being replaced by neohumans. biggrin.gif

Anyway, it is inevitable that humans will be forced to come to terms with the fact that they will not be around 100,000 years from now, and they'd better start taking charge of the destiny of civilization, or it will be decided for them by chance :genius:

if ppl are more competitive.. wont they just kill each others??.. there are other species that extinct 'cuz they're quite competive.. the brain doesn't work according to what you make them.. there are identical twin that are different in the level of intelligence... it's how dna are expressed...

Not necessarily kill us. Competition can be peaceful too. They will just be so overwhelmingly better at everything that they will jostle us out of existence. Besides, we are so petty and mentally backward that we kill each other for silly reasons as it is.

As for intelligence, yes, there is an environmental component. However, this environmental component is only a determinant of how much of the full genetic intelligence potential is attained. It's like height. Humans have a set genetically encoded height capacity. But underfed humans will not attain the full height of which they are genetically capable. Similarly, identical twins can develop different intelligence levels and even different heights if the environmental factors are different. However, if they both went through similar life experiences, they would turn out similar. It is the genetic intelligence potential that we should aim to increase. That way, it will increase the average intelligence of the new breeds.
ngo.ngochy
yes we can hope for that 'cuz even with a smart brain some people will still be petty and fight 'cuz of silly reasons... tho, i wouldn't go that far to replace us with the new breeds, the one with only the wanted traits... there could be a down side to it.
