Daylight savings goes way back to the days of farming and fishing. all the states with big farming and fishing populations used daylight savings as a way to have more daylight hours during the warmer months so that they could be more productive. Cause see, back then they worked sun up til sun down. So they moved the clocks ahead for the spring summer and early fall months.
The fisherman could get out early before the sun came up, and the farmers could stay outside longer planting and harvesting.
Arizona didn't have farming or fishing, and when the state was formed, which was long after daylight savings had been established in the Eastern states, they didn't see the need for it, as they didn't have fisherman or farmers. it was just hot and dry.
As for Indiana, they dropped it some time ago, because it didn't seem necessary anymore. A lot of other states have thought of doing the same. The rest of the country kept it.
