I think the two Phan's are universaly respected:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phan_Boi_Chau ---died in 1940
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phan_Chu_Trinh ---died in 1926

I read somewhere, perhaps in one of David G. Marrs' books that even Ho looked up to the two Phans. My memory is a bit sketchy on this--read it a few years ago, and only paid passing attention to it.

Non-communists Viets of course love these two nationalists. And they didn't even play poker. embarassedlaugh.gif2

Another one would be martyr Pho Duc Chinh. When he was sent to the guillotine in 1930 by the French, he requested to be laid face up so he could see the blade coming down through him. That is truly awesome. beerchug.gif

Hell yeah, I heard when the late President HCM was jailed by the French Phan Boi Chau often visited him, and give him money.
