i'm not sure i understand u correctly... u said that the south is more like " The Free World vs Communism"... but didn't the North attack first?... and the South was just defending it... and fighting freedom is like fighting for the people...
what i meant to say was the South was ganging up with the foreign troops on the north, under the banner of "the Free World" (I don't mean to say the South was fighting "for freedom" because i wouldn't know if it actually was or not, I just meant to say it was fighting under the banner of the "Free World"). The north got helps from the Soviet and China and fought for ideology (communism) too, but it looked better because, supposedly, there was no foreign troop in the North. sorry if i actually confused you.

The one thing that i've noticed about Vietnam War movies is that they all depict U.S soldiers were the one that did all the fighting.
geez i noticed that too. I wonder why that many south soldiers died ? sleeping and eating too much ??
I think they didn't fight for democracy, although some did gave up their lives for it. But most of them were fighting because it was well paid! Right? That's just me.
what i meant was that i didn't agree with American film makers about making it looked as if all combat were done by American troops and not south Vietnamese troops.
Soldiers in the south mostly fought because they were forced to (bi bat buoc phai di linh). some fought because they hated the communists., some fought because their love ones got killed by communists, etc
I think the reverse of what you said was true during the war. some (wealthy families) paid well so they didn't have to fight, but i don't think they were paid enough to fight and die
