In a landmark ruling, a Japanese court has ordered the Government and a Japanese firm to pay 88 million yen ($A1.13 million) in compensation to former Chinese labourers forced to work in Japan during World War II.
Twelve Chinese former labourers had demanded the Government and a company where they worked, pay 275 million yen ($A3.52 million) in redress, Kyodo news agency reported yesterday.
Dozens of wartime compensation suits have been filed against the Government, but yesterday's ruling is the first to say the state should pay compensation.

The senkaku is controlled by japan. Those chinese were warned not to enter japanese territory. They disobeyed and were arrested. Japanese people did nothing wrong this time. If the chinese want that ridiculous island back so badly they should take it up with america. It is america that gave the island to japan.

Kyoto court invalidates NOVA English teacher's relocation
Saturday, March 27, 2004 at 00:05 JST
KYOTO — The Kyoto District Court on Friday nullified a decision by NOVA English language school in Kyoto to relocate personnel, accepting a claim by an American teacher that he was unfairly transferred because of his labor union activities. Judge Hidetoshi Asada said the court has found "no professional necessity for the relocation" of teacher Robert Bisom, 60.
"I believe the decision to relocate him was made because of his labor union activities. The transfer is an abuse of power," the judge said. Bisom, who joined NOVA in Kyoto in 1997, took part in March 2001 in a nationwide labor union made up by teachers like him and called for his associates to join. (Kyodo News)

Japan seems to be getting steadily friendlier to other ethnicities...
I wouldn't have thought a case like this would make news

what a naive, limited and simple mind.
hey, it's great that these laborers got what they deserved. But it doesn't really affect the overall relations much. We are talking about a nation's sense of historic responsibility. One small ruling isn't going to be much of an influence.

Demanding an apology for murdering 20 million people is not "b!tching".
If Japan is not mature enough to offer an apology after all these years, it has nothing to blame but itself for its' political isolation.

Please read my post again.
My point was that China is not "b!tching" when it asks Japan to issue an apology.
It is quite mind boggling to think that after sixty years, such a small gesture of sincerity is still beyond the grasp of Japanese politicians. This is quite a tired topic, but it won't "die away" until Japan reconciles with its past. This is a fact.

Who cares about the money? I'm not saying those laborers who were forced to work for the Japanese shouldn't be paid but it seems like the government just wants to shove money into people's mouths instead of dealing with the real issue here.
Until the Japanese government acknowledges its warcrimes and stop whitewashing its history books, things won't get much better.
