I don't know if this is true, but sometimes sports represents the amount of money the nation is willing to spend in training resources and sponsorships of athletes. Theres no way our current government can support this under a dictatorship/tyrant whos nontheless corrupt. Within a few years if the government changes I'm willing to bet that Khmers will be successful in alot of sports namely track/soccer.

Most of us in Cambodia are crippled. How can we have enough men/women powers to compete in sports? Plus, the current Cambodian gov't officials has no idea of what sports is. The majorities of them probably has never play sports in their whole life. These guys sucks at sports but good at corruption and oppression. If those two were to be sports, Cambodia gov't would be the best at it.

In 1971, the second year Cambodia (seems) to enter in the SEA Games, it won 17 gold medals. Not Bad! This was the second year it went, the first time in 1961, it won 1 medal. The Sea Games are held every two years, the first one was in 1959.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1971_Southeas...eninsular_GamesSo don't say we are losers! It's just that Cambodia is a poor country now, you can't expect athletes to put all their efforts into sports when many are poor and have bigger things to put their mind into.

It's okay! Anyone that crosses the finish line will always be a winner! Remember what Mohatma said! Satisfaction lies in the effort, not in the attainment, full effort is full victory.

I can not agree with you guy. The fact is in Olympic 2004, Thailand won 3 golds 1 silver and 4 bronzes, Total 8 medals. We are not loser but winner. Khamer can use a Thai Coach to help develops Khamer sport, even come to practise with Thailand in the sport you have potential enough. Khmer should focus on the sport you have the most potential and put more resources on that sport, one or two, should be enough for start.
This is Olympic 2004.

During the 60s and 70s Cambodia is one of the strongest sporting nations in SE-Asia, even better then Vietnam. But years of warfare under Pol Pot and after has caused Cambodia to lag behind other nations, and now not just Cambodia but both Vietnam and Laos is still struggling to find any success.
Again, winning GOLD in SEA Games doesn't mean anything if the country can't win $hit at Olympics.

I hope next SEAGAME Khmer will be better. I see what Laos did is better than the past. She can win a gold medal. Khmer is in the same rank with East-Timor.
Finally, Vietnam cannot stay in the second rank. Thailand is a second now.

At least Cambodia got something. I guess helping alleviate poverty is better than spending money on sport.
Vietnam is trailing Thailand with just one gold medal with 63 Golds at the moment.

Communist countries usually invest more in sports for propaganda purposes, thus Laos outperforming Cambodia by a tad bit is pretty good in my opinion.

I know for a fact that WE KHMER are not suck in sport. It is our governments that is suck in sport. They probably sends their incompent sports participant within their own government to compete. They thought that by sending their own players to compete, they can STEAL something. Well, obviously not and the current Khmer government is still suck.
