SAPPORO -- A 30-year-old man who stayed two nights in a room at an Internet cafe to avoid the cold was arrested when he couldn't pay his bills, police said on Monday.
Hirotaka Nagai, a jobless man, stayed at a room in an Internet cafe in Sapporo from the night of Nov. 23 to the afternoon of Nov. 25 but refused to pay bills for food and accommodation totaling 15,000 yen.
Nagai reportedly told workers, "I will pay the bills tomorrow," or "My parents will come and pay the bills."
Nagai visited a manga coffee shop early on Monday, but an employee who had received a warning about him from another shop spotted him and alerted police.
Nagai was in possession of some 40,000 yen when he came from Kushiro to Sapporo in early November. He had only 74 yen on him when arrested on Monday. (Mainichi)
