I have a typical Vietnamese last name, which is Nguyen.

Just curious, but why are their so many Nguyens out there? Are we all related? I mean Related Related.

My mother's maiden name was Pham.

Its because when the Ly dynasty was in decline, the people with the Ly last name was forced to change their name to Nguyen. Same thing happen during the decline of the Tran dynasty as well from what i heard. so now there are a lot of Nguyens lol.

Mother was born in Vietnam... she was a Chinese immigrant. My grandparents were both Chinese. Why she was "Pham" is an enigma to me.
