Wow, any pictures? icon_smile.gif

Two, three years ago, we had an exhibit on Qing dynasty artifacts, anything ranging from musical instruments, paintings, jewelrys, armors, weapons... etc. at our Houston's Museum of Natural Science. I wonder if this is the same thing.

Not able to take any pictures. It wasn't allowed. Along with any food and drink. sure.gif

But it was SO COOL. OMG. Watching all these lian shu jus with Qianlong as emperor really get you interested in history. They had his swords, robes, thrones, rings, writing utensils, musket, spear, riding gear, dining wear, ceremonial armor, desk, etc etc. It was amazing. He actually USED ALL THAT. I was so impressed. If this had come a couple years ago, I definitely would have complained and been bored and sat there tired. But this time I just spent about 2 hours in the exhibit looking at everything. And I definitely learned a lot from my dad too. How you can tell the ranking of officials by what they're wearing, the emblems on the square patch, how circle patches are reserved for the royal family, how circular patches on the shoulders shows that the individual is a prince, how colors and hats and such also show rank. And how by looking at the dragons on the clothes you can tell what time period it's from, by the claws and the faces/jaws of the dragons. Of course I bet you already know that....but still. I want to share my new found knowledge. biggrin.gif

I'm so proud of being Chinese now. We were so advanced and organized before Europeans were even eating without their hands. biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Hehe I know what you mean, I was just teasing you biggrin.gif

I'm glad my parents took me on so many trips to see different parts of China in the past couple of years. I mean I've always known there was a Great Wall, Terra Cotta Warriors, Forbidden Palace, Jiayuguan and beautiful scenaries in China. However, I was never prouder of being Chinese when I first saw everything I've read about in textbooks with my very own eyes.

I don't know where else to put this! I think it's an event...it's limited time only! And they brought all the items over from China...!!

It's in Chicago.

The Art Institute of Chicago hosted a very impressive exhibition of Shang/Zhou era bronze work last winter.

Because during the last 20 years of his reign, China stopped to progress, he started to enjoy his luxury. Moreover, he wouldn't listen to other people except He Shen, who proved to be one of the worst corrupted official in Chinese history.
chynagongju
Yet he did so much for China. Focus on the good that he did for the nation!

That's why I don't "hate" him either. Among all Qing emperors, I like Huangtaiji, Kangxi, Yongzhen and Guangxu
chynagongju
Ah I see. I like Kangxi and Yongzhen too. biggrin.gif

If you turn in a can of specially marked Pepsi products at the Field Museum, you can get $2 off the regular admission. That comes to $14 - $2 = $12, with a student ID.
chynagongju
YAY! We got the one year family membership or something...
Colordevil
Wow, after all these comments, it made me have the urge to visit there too.
