I just came back from Vietnam 3 weeks ago. Let me tell you that you'll enjoy the trip. It was a blast for me, especially Nha Trang and the tour around the islands. So much fun. Also, being around Vietnamese and cruising Saigon at night is 90% of the fun and excitement. Have a good trip.

I've heard there are a lot of nice touristy areas on the coast. And hotels are like 10 bucks a night.

Where? Go with your family if you have relatives in Vietnam. They're the best tour guides and most importantly you can trust them.

Easy there turbo! Vietnam isn't like Mexico where people (teenagers) get drunk and do crazy stuff and party 24/7. Well, I don't know anywhere in Vietnam that you can party, but there's one city that you should definately visit, and it's Da Nang. Be sure to stop at China beach, climb "Ngũ Hành Sơn" (my house is about 30' from there), and visit the Cham museum (my house is 2' from there). There ya go, make sure to visit and say hi to my cousins for me, too. embarassedlaugh.gif

Yah, I agree with ya on that, that city is nothing but a party/sin city. Most of the hard workers are from the Central coming in to find jobs, and they're well successful at it, too. I don't have anything against Saigon people, but that city haunted me for the rest of my life when I visited it in 2000.

Nam ky people are notorious for partying... my parents even admit it.

Yah, here's what I think:

Bac Ky (North Vietnam): They tend to be more conservative than most Vietnamese, everything's got to be their way, or no way. They are brave and heroic when it comes to national identity.

Trung Ky (Central Vietnam): They are hardworkers. Endured almost 400 years of civil war, starting from Trinh-Nguyen lords, so they know a lot more history and war than any Vietnamese. They are very determined, nationalist, and patriotic people. If it wasn't for them that started the province of Quang Nam, south Vietnam wouldn't be here today.

Nam Ky (South Vietnam): A mix of Trung Ky and Bac Ky, they enjoy life more than any Vietnamese. They are loyal, but yet undetermined by their families and country. They enjoy the luxeries from the West more than Trung Ky and Bac Ky, so over the time, they tend to be more lazy in their own way.

Just my opinion.

You're right DV. The people in the south spends more money than they make, or so it seems when I was there last month. They don't know what is saving or the concept of thinking ahead into their future wellbeing. Their mantra is to live for today and think about tomorrow once it arrives. Man Saigon is not a viable place for a financial adviser or financial planner (like me).

Hey.Hey, Saigon is fun. Lots of hard worker there too. And partying helps drive the economy. If people live more like the West, good for them. If everyone was frugal, how would money circulate and how would the economy be strong. Just don't get yourself in debt that's the key.

In Sài G̣n, have get together drinks with friends @ Nhạc Trẻ No. 1, sit a bit away from the speakers to be able to converse easily.
Afterwards, hit up Spaceship to rock your body hump.gif
You can cure the midnight munchies @ hundreds of concentrated sidewalk eateries throughout the city.
I have only been to the New Century Discotheque in Hà Nội, pretty good. But the capital pales in comparison in terms of nightlife to her southern counterpart.

I think that it is perfectly fine to live for today and not think of tomorrow because no one knows what tomorrow will bring. And my family is from the south. This is my 5th or 6th time to Vietnam but I really want to enjoy myself by partying this time. The other times, it was to be with family and making mischieves. embarassedlaugh.gif
