Yah, I've been searching for those modern Vietnamese soldiers for a long time, but never see any.

By the way, I like your signature, that is Hưng Đạo Đại Vương Trần Quốc Tuấn, right?
drunkenmonkey

yap he is..

drunkenmonkey and daiviet,

From what i know, the current government of Vietnam do not reveal anything about their military forces. I've been to Vietnamese-based websites and the people told me that the citizens of Vietnam are not allowed to reveal anything about Vietnamese military force.

btw, I find it very disturbing that Ngo Thoi Sy said that Hung Dao Vuong was ethnically Chinese and so did the nobles of the Tran dynasty.

Yah the current communist regime is pretty secretive about their military...

Well viet is a mixed race so it not suprise that we're mixed with the Chin, Shu and Chu when those people got defeated and went to our country.

Yah, the U.S. is full of people from different ethnic backgrounds, and they all love the U.S. and its people, they would do anything to protect it, so they are considered as Americans.

Same as Vietnam, Chinese that lived in Vietnam for 3 or more generations will become Vietnamized and they will think themselves as Vietnamese. Ly Bon, a Vietnamese hero who ousted the Chinese and set up the first Ly Dynasty that lasted less then a century was Chinese-related. His family moved to Vietnam hundreds of years ago to avoid China's warring states.

True, so true. There are no girls as beautiful as Vietnamese.

I love you Vietnam. And U.S., too.

Hmmmm... no offense to the old North and South government. But I would really want to see some modern Vietnamese troops. Especially the ones who dress in their service dress and carry a riffle and stand at attention. That image will never fade away in my mind.

This Su-27 is Russian.

Anyways, are there statistics on the Vietnam Military such as equipment and inventory?

The Vietnamese government is very secretive.

Retraction: I believe there was some article that after the withdrawel there were still a few Vietnamese soldiers left there.

I don't think they would release reports of their stats since they are very secretive and don't want anyone knowing how large their military is.

Yeah Vietnam is a close ally of Russia and lots of Vietnamese weapons are purchased from Russia.

Vietnam also uses that fighter. China uses it too. They bought it from Russia. Just like the F-16s, the Israels didn't make that fighter, they bought it from the U.S.

I know. In China the Su-27 is called the Jian-11 or Su-27SK. China also uses the Su-30MKK that was purchased from Russia but also retains its own domestic fighters.

I didn't mean where it was made. I meant the plane's insignia is that of the Russian Air Force and not Vietnam.
Byron
I guess they didn't bother to change it.

I can tell that when the Sino-Vietnam War was fought, people like herosword were praying that the Chinese would kill every single Vietnamese soldier.
Hiroki
I never knew that Vietnam flew Su-27's. Excellent craft. On par with the American F-15. icon_smile.gif

Their armour seems a bit outdated however, exposed track, high profile, rounded or either blocky turrets. As with their battle dress. Im not too familiar with Vietnamese combat kit but their helmets seem to be the old solid steel type instead of the reActive stuff that most modern nations use.

But anyways... That modern Vietnamese female soldier is fuked up hot. embarassedlaugh.gif I'll tresspass into Vietnamese territory only if she'll 'apprehend', 'detain' and 'interrogate' me personally.

Great thread.

Wow, I never knew that South Vietnam had a special force at all. Those generals in the website looked pretty young for a general. In the U.S., you gotta be in the serive at least 15 years to get to the rank of a Colonel. So a general would have to spend some years, may be 20 plus years. But those guys looked really young.

And arggh... I can't stop looking at that chick on top of the page.
herosword
From reading the stuff on that website, it seems very moderate. It's about some old soldiers reminiscing about the past and hoping for a better future. They talk about the new battlefield that involved the younger Vietnamese generation and making sure they retain their tradition. The site has got a good message.
