Again, i acknowledge without doubt that funan civilization was adopted by Chenla the definate kingdom of khmer and so you continue the legacy of funan so it is part of YOUR history in any case. maybe these idea is not easily accepted even if i had try to present numerous support but are not common standard so khmer scholars refute. it is okay,i do not feel at loss or defeat because its just for purpose of finding relationship between us malay & khmer. maybe there is another point in our region history that we were so. i think its important that we try at least to find this time so it is not hatred or differnce that is stressed btween us. im glad khmer & cham are said to be on good terms before khmer rouge. so there yu go. peace.

Greeting Malay Ako,
As a individual Khmer person, I for one will say that the Khmer and the Malays are more the same than we we are different. Aside from this personal perspective, I would like to respond to your various good points.
hello khmer, this is my forumal apology to you all and that i am truely sorry for offense or anger i cause to you with my poor ability to express the true reason of my posts which was not clear as i think bck otherwise there wouldnt be a;ll this animosity.
My friend, on behalf of all the Khmer-speaking visitors to this forum, I am deeply touch with your sincerity. I humbly accept your great heart and reconcilable good gesture. There is no harm done between the Khmer and the Malays whatsoever.
again try to leave you with hope you believe that i do not harbor hate for khmer people and that i actually admire you everything. it is beautiful your culture as others also.
My friend, your sincerity and balance acknowledgement of others make you one of the best human beings that I have come across. Thank you.
i dont know what to say about funan, in my own opinon i believe it was multi-ethnic kingdom and that malay was pressence if nothing else, i dont say this to try to take away from khmer, but try to establish the point of intergration in the history of our region.
My friend, I appreciate your wonderful view and good purpose very much. The Khmer themselves already know that they are a mixed race. Their physical looks make them stand out among the Southeast Asians. It is no wonder that the Westerners have a tendency to identify a "typical" Khmer with India instead of "Asian". In fact, I found a website that classifies the Khmer not as "Asians" but as "AustroAsians". So this clearly point out that the Khmer is a mixed people. If the prefix "Austro" has any connection to the Malay people, then so there is the evidence of the link between the two peoples.
Funan is a sensitive issue, in my opinion. Everything that defines a Khmer person has been started in Funan. Thus, anything that considered as an attempt to deny the Khmer people of that heritage will be critically looked upon.
Again, i acknowledge without doubt that funan civilization was adopted by Chenla the definate kingdom of khmer and so you continue the legacy of funan so it is part of YOUR history in any case.
If it is the archaeological historical truth so be it. However, the Khmer have always believed that the Khmer people inhabited and controlled both the State of Chenla and the State of Funan. Regarding the indigeneous population like the Negritoes or others, the Khmer have never denied their existence. In addition, both political entities were believed to be sister states. The Khmer history tells that the royalties of Funan and Chenla consolidated at one point in history. This explains why the Sailendra of Java who claimed to be part of the Funan royal families never liberate Funan from the Khmer rule even they had controlled the Chenla State for 12 long years. Another interesting evidence is that even the Chinese who claimed to have contacted with the Funanese way long before the Khmer also used the Khmer terms and words to describe the state of Funan. It seems to make sense that the Khmer actually controlled Funan because everything was a direct reference to the Khmer language. In addition, another piece of evidence revealed that the ancient inscription of Funan was written in Sanskrit, the old language of India. Well that is exactly the point because the Khmer themselves claimed that their first King Kambu was of Indian origin.
maybe these idea is not easily accepted even if i had try to present numerous support but are not common standard so khmer scholars refute.
My friend, as I mentioned above it will be hard indeed, especially when Cambodia's arrogant neighbors have always been trying to deny the existence of the Khmer ethnicity and have always been claiming that the Khmer are a new group of recent immigrants who replaced the ancient people of ancient Cambodia. In their view, if the Khmer are a recent group of immigrants who take over Cambodia, then they too can do the same. As a result, the traditional boundary of present-day Cambodia has never been respected by Cambodia's bigger arrogant neigbors. The Khmer, however, repeatedly show them time and time again that the Khmer still survive the enemies' onslaughts and that they have proof of their existence and their unique civilization.
it is okay,i do not feel at loss or defeat because its just for purpose of finding relationship between us malay & khmer.
My friend don't you ever feel that way. In my opinion, I think the Khmer are indeed a mixture of Malay people because if you put a Khmer person with a Malay, I bet you can't even tell them apart. In fact even in their every day language there are Malay words. Some Khmer songs even boast of Khmer preference for the "Malay beauty and Kalinga (Indian) beauty". Now if the Khmer themselves don't even have any common boundary with the various states of the Malay people, then how come they even have a preference for a Malay beauty? Others can argue by looking at other aspects, but I think it is because there is the presence of the "Malay" types in the Khmer gene pool. The Khmer in general don't talk about the beauty of the Vietnamese, Chinese, Thais, Laotians, or others, except for the Malays and the Kalingas (Indians). This clearly shows that the Khmer were exposed to those types of Malays and Kalingas since the ancient time.
maybe there is another point in our region history that we were so.
We are so, my friend. The Khmer are a mixture of people.
i think its important that we try at least to find this time so it is not hatred or differnce that is stressed btween us.
There is neither hatred nor stress between our two peoples, my friend. You have done an excellent job in pointing out the similarity between the Khmer and the Malays.
im glad khmer & cham are said to be on good terms before khmer rouge. so there yu go.
It is very interesting to note that the Chams chose to flee to Cambodia instead of living under the Vietnamese control. This alone shows that the Chams feel close to the Khmer people. This percieved "closeness" must somehow reveal the connection between the two people since the ancient past. The Khmer history tells that the Khmer Angkorian King was unable to support the Cham Kings defending their territories from the numerous advancing Annamites as the Khmer themselves were losing large territories to the uprising Thais. The Chams in Cambodia are called "Khmer Islam". I don't know if the Chams like to be called like that or not, but the name designated to them alone already shows that they are a part of the Khmer larger family. There outstanding popular Khmer singers of Cham descents in Cambodia today.
peace.
Humbly yours and I bid you peace as well,
FKR

Like FKR say,
We Khmer do not look down upon the Malay culture but actually look up to it.
I believed most of the things you say and in my heart I too believe the Khmer culture was influenced by the Indian AND Malay.

I get mistaken for being Flip by every flip I meet, so very much possible.
Generally speaking Khmer have respect a lot for the Cham, Indians, and Malay b/c you guys in term respected us.
