I hear ppl say there are indigenous tribes in cambodia who live in mountains or elsewhere? is this true?

And if so can you tell me:

who are they?
how long have they been there?
what are their names?
what is their culture?
what language do they speak?
How do they get along with the average khmer?

Or link me to website, cause i never find one that talks about ppl like this even though i hear about them alot.

Hello Malay Ako,

I think you will find this website below very valuable to start your research:
http://lcweb2.loc.gov/frd/cs/khtoc.html

It provides an internet book called "Cambodia--A Country Study"

For your interest, you should scroll down to Chapter 2: The Society & Its Environment. That chapter is broken down into seven headings or topics. To learn more about the ethnic minority groups in Cambodia, you should scroll down to the subtopic "Other Ethnic Groups" under the heading "Social Structure and Organization".

I hope this will help you get started.

Until Next time,

Greeting Malay Ako,

hey fkr, im sorry we start on the wrong foot my friend, but im glad we became friendly conversation...

Malay Ako, no harm done. I must admit that I find your posts very intriquing.

...in the end i enjoy learning about our se asian history because thats my only intention is to establish relation and brotherhood between khmer & malay but i guess i dont know the proper way to express that.

Malay Ako, I respect your intention. I believe your cause is very worthy. I am in line with you, my friend. I for one never disclaim that there is no relationship between the Khmer and the Malays because the Khmer is a mixed race to begin with anyway. In my opinion and it does not mean that it is necessarily true, I think that when you made a claim that "Funan" was a Malay state, you offended many Cambodians. The Khmer history has always begun with "Funan" which was called "Banam" in Khmer. The history goes on to say that the "Khmer" is the blessed name for the offsprings of the First Indian King Kambu and the Native Khmer Queen Soma. Culturally, the Khmer can never deny their past links with Mother India despite the fact that the Khmer had refined and developed their own unique culture. The Khmer Chenla State was a sister state of the State of Funan. The Chinese reference to the Chenla State as a vassal state of Funan is false. The ancient Chinese were also known to call the Khmer people "uncivilized" when in fact those same Chinese wrote that the Khmer people had advanced social development, social customs, art, and sciences. These details alone point out that the Khmer were "civilized" people. At one point in history, the Moon Royalty of Chenla and the Sun Royalty of Funan reunited. Everything that defines the uniqueness of the Khmer people's culture and cutoms has had its beginning from Funan. So for anyone to deny the Khmer of this heritage is to insult the Khmer in the fullest extent of the word itself. You should witness the traditional Khmer marriage ceremony. It is a long intricate nostalgic process. The groom and bride are being transformed into the first Indian King Kambu and the first Queen Soma. The Khmer still remember their cultural heritage that originated in the State of Funan. This is of course my own personal point of view, and it is never intended to serve as a generalization on behalf of any Cambodian.

well im leaving the forum so i dont offend anyone unintentially or be bann, i will read occasionally though.

Malay Ako, I respect your wish always. I wish you the very best for your endeavor. My suggestion to you is that please find out others' positions regarding any issue first before you shine the light on them. It is best to let others find the truth for themselves rather than you just tell them out. You provide them with the evidence and let them conclude.

...but if you became interested in any of my discussion by chance im glad to share with you my knowledge and i would like to learn from you also so please feel free to contact anytime on note at my asianasianavenue: pnoi_lyk_hoi if you wish or if not this is fine also..

Malay Ako, thank you very much for your invitation. I am a fan of your post. I would like to learn more from you. Yes, I will make time to visit you at asianavenue: pnoi_lyk_hoi.

...i am regulary in the culture boards there anyway so hopefully some intellectualists will come eventually because this my favortie site even though the ppl's content destroy the sites potential as recently it has become only racist discussion of ethnocentrist mentality and i guess it rubb off on me a little as evident, so i quit going to aa, but i guess ill go back because i dont know any other asian culture site. but hey if you can provide me with any good ones i would appreicate that.

Malay Ako, I also have my favorite site but it is still down at the moment. Just like you I am a new visitor to this discussion board too. The good thing about this board is that I tend to get good responses to my post. I really appreciate my good luck in a sense. At another site, I don't usually get any response at all. Readers always complain that I usually write too long or some sort of that nature. I guess I should get the hint that being short and succint will sell. Hey by the way, I would like to be a contributing member poster at the chamyouth site. Anyway, I don't know about you but I think this site has too much restrictions. I prefer a little bit more freedom. So don't be a stranger and good luck to you and I promise you that we will meet again soon at your favorite website.

salamat.

There is more to me than just my Khmerness.

FKR,
do you visit khmerconnection.com? there are a lot of khmer intellectuals on that site, well there used to be but there's still some who go there. you should visit that site more often especially the politics/arts&culture forums.
