QUOTE
In 1963 William Willmott, an expert on overseas Chinese communities, estimated that 90 percent of the Chinese in Cambodia were involved in commerce and that 92 percent of those involved in commerce in Cambodia were Chinese.

It appears that Chinese in Cambodia dominate the country economy, what do Cambodian think about this?
kunomchu
that was 1963 smartguy.
nanyang
I know its 1963, and that’s what I want to discuss.
kunomchu
1963 and 2005 are two different worlds.
nanyang
Yes I know my friend, that’s why I am opening this thread to discuss about Chinese in Cambodia. Because I was unable to find more information about Chinese in Cambodia, so that’s why I hope someone could provide me with more information about this. And it appears that Chinese control 92 percent of the commerce in Cambodia in 1963 and I hope someone would provide some information to me what is the Chinese current situation in Cambodia.
Suijen
^ I doubt it's that much today. If it were really bad, I think we would have all heard about it by now.
transtic
I dunno, they may be ethnically Chinese, but beyond ethnicality they probably consider themselves Cambodian. I'm not sure that these figures are accurate today either.. I wouldn't have a clue to be honest.

Since the majority of the Phnom Penh population consists of sino-khmers, I guess chinese have most of the control in commerce and businesses however most have already assimilated into mainstream khmer society and would consider themselves just khmer.

Most of sino-Cambodians have already assimilated in Khmer society, however there are still great number out there, who think they are not Cambodians.
crew
Those are the ones that are here in the US. They see other asians doing better than khmers, they shamelessly lie about their background....
chanthhha
In Cambodia, proportionally, there are good number of Sino-Cambodians, however in larger scale, I have to acknowledge that Sino-Cambodians greedy in terms of corroepondent with businesese, trades aginst native khmers.

Don't get me wrong, I have been long enough in Cambodia and enough observation about Sino-Cambodians.
So I am not to surprised with most of khmer good attitudes towards sino-Cambodians.

Now little boy your pathetic attempt to get attention is just that. Pathetic! You need to pick up some good English grammar books and go from there. But may be you are just one of those kids who will never get better at the language. embarassedlaugh.gif2

Sorry to disturb your geniuse discussions.

Abu, according to your remark above, I find it very outrageous, disturbance, unenlighten, narrow minded and very childish from you. However I don't have the time to take your intention seriously.

Educated and intellectual people claims to think harder and demonstrate the statement before they actually open their mouths. Unfortunately, you are not ones of them. Your outrageous remark already justified who you are. Continously, maybe you being baised and prejudiced in regardless of racial.

I hope, you don't spent your valuable times to criticize and judge others people regardless of the topic, becuase it doesn't helped your times at all. what ever it is in you, I realised what kind of person you are.

There are alots of idiot out there, who claims so knowledgable about Cambodia's situations, most of them learned from the books, alternative sources, lies and exaggerations system of education. in adition these idiots tends to think to knows more than enough, nonetheless these people are blinded eyes. Obviously, because they never experienced the reality and the life ordinary khmers sino-Cambodians and never lived there before.

As I said, there are quite good number of sino-Cambodian in Cambodia are assimilate well into Cambodia culture. As results, Cambodian should treated them fairly and equally, however there are larger number of sino-Cambodian treated and looked down on native-khmers who are uneducated in terms of basic, fundamental skiils in negotiating when then purchased products for the sino-Cambodian stores. And more in various sectors. If I have to say it we could all day.

I don't inform people as I think or have natural hatred towards sino-Cambodians, nevertheless I am speaking of life experiences, observation and undstanding the system, and the facts that it is existed largely. Most of khmers brought up abroads totally has no ideas, so I am not going to say anything against them.

I have sino-Casmbodian cuisine living in Cambodia. He is an excellent person, however it does not mean that I should love those greedy sino-Cambodians.

In all, I don't speaks in unrealistic and imaginary world likes some people in khmers threads.

Anyway, thank for advice regardless of grammar problems, I will try my best to rectify the problems, however if I can't, its just my problem, not your.

Abu, if you think, you are so enlighten of the khmer issues. Please help me to demonstrate and evaluate how the sino-Cambodian business works and correspondent with khmer people, daily?
