Also please dont use amature rap music to show how Vietnamese sound like. I myself hate Viet rap music. Its sound so getto and non-artistic.

She know many language but picked Vietnamese as her primary language to sing other than English.
QUOTE
I have said that I began singing in chinese before I sang in Vietnamese and that's true. The reason being, chinese is the first asian lyrics I learned to sing and that was inspired by my discovery of Jacky Chan movies. Since music has always been my first love of all the arts, my interest in these movies naturally led to their music. Chinese made about the fourth or fifth language I had learned to sing at that time.
I had not become familiar with the Vietnamese people until after my discovery and experience with the chinese movies and music. In the beginning I learned to sing in Vietnamese because its beauty attracted me to it and the challenge of it (to see if I could). Like an artist that has only painted pictures of landscapes with beautiful rivers in them, until he comes upon the sea. He then not only sees the sea as a new beauty but also as a challenge to paint. And so he paints the sea for both reasons. First, because he is an artist and creating pictures is his way of expressing himself and communicating with the world around him. And so his desire to paint compels him to do so. Secondly, he strives to polish and perfect his craft. To continue to paint only a river when he might be able to paint the sea as well, is to leave his best yet undiscovered.
My first experience with the Vietnamese people was when my family and I went to a chinese restaurant to celebrate a birthday and were waited on by a Vietnamese waiter. The beautiful haunting music playing in the background immediately caught my attention. When I inquired about it he told us it was Vietnamese. And I fell in love with it. The waiter told us where to find a Vietnamese restaurant and that began my growing friendship with the Vietnamese people.
from her interview.

I am still deciding which language is good to learn,Chinese or Korean. I have already rule out Japanese since they are not that rich in culture compare to Korea or China, but that just my opinion.
I enjoyed the Korean drama Emperor of the Sea I wish to watch it without the subtitle one day.

Are you learning for practicality or for cool factor? I know that China's a rising economic power, and thus learning Chinese might help you earn a few more bucks. The other Asian countries seem to be pretty stable economically, and it seems the window of opportunity may have already closed. China's window seems to be closing also.

Both practical and entertainment. Korea has the best movie now. I used to like HK but I rarely like a HK movie. The last one I like that was HK was Infernal Affair.

Well, it's better to just view subtitles than to learn a language just to watch the film. I say, learn the language in which you feel would pay off more.

I'm learning Chinese because:
I am Chinese.
I want to read the classics.
It'll probably help when I go over to live there.
Excellent resume fodder.
I need to take a language class.
If not Chinese, I probably would have taken Spanish.
Please don't take a language just because you want to view films without subtitles. I don't think the payout is worth it.

judging from all the clips, vietnamese sounds like a slightly more "indianish" version of a mix between thai and canto. not bad. it also does remind me of felines. maybe because of the frequency of the "y" and ending "m" sounds ("yeom yow")? don't know.
