I wish I knew. Guangxi is one of the few provinces in China that I haven't travelled to yet. But I'm assuming it's some form of Vietnamese.

Yes, Jing is the ethnicity of the majority of modern Vietnamese people. In Vietnamese, "Jing" is "Kinh".

Jing are Viet that left behind when the Viet fled south, i think.

Actually I agree with your theory. I was just wondering if you have any evidence. icon_smile.gif

It certainly wouldn't be the first time a non-Han people was absorbed into the Han-Chinese culture. The Han ethnic itself is no longer completely pure. The Northern Han have mixed with Manchu, Mongol, Dongyi... etc. while the Southern Han have mixed with all the numerous ethnic groups in Southern China. As transportation became more convinent, Northern Han and Southern Han mix too.

In a way, it's kind of like many Caucasian-Americans who can't really say they are of any specific origin (English, Irish, Scottish, German, French... etc.). A hundred year ago, most Chinese might be able to say they are from a specific province but now, most people's grandparents are all from different provinces. Me for example, is mix of Henan, Jiangsu, and Sichuan.

But anyway, back to Jing (Kinh)...
