Does anyone know what are the current stats of our Vietnamese Army? Apart from the Russian made AKs we got from China during the Vietnam war, what else do we have?

Don't underestimate, although compared globally VN would not rank in the top 20, however the VN armed forces could overtake Thailand if they hypothetically faced off.

But then Thailand isn't exactly a world power... icon_rolleyes.gif

Off topic I think taiwan is very well defended. It would probably not do well in offensive battles.

Anyway. The vietnamese army is some what out dated. They dont have many advanced weapons. They use most of the lower forms of guns that the chinese have. probably the same rocket weapons also. I am not sure what remains of their air force or how advanced it is.

They can count on their jungle warfare tactics, that'll be all I guess

My thoughts exactly. Atleast that is something they can rely on. I mean their tactics have worked decades.

Yeah if you want to use stats from 5 years ago

Seems fairly recent:

I wouldn't take that list seriously.

It is diffucult to find a website about modern vietnam military, as far as I know they don't even have an official website. I kept getting a vietnam war era website instead.

Anyways....

The vietnam military (all branches included) are the ninth largest in the world. I heard they are uprgrading their naval fleets and are modernizing their T-55 tanks, rumor has it that they are trying to aquire T-72 tanks of unknown model.

Their air force has Mig-21 fighters, Su-22, Su-27, and L39 in their inventory. I believe they are all operational. Russia has also sold them S-300PMU and four fighters Su-30MKK.

Edit- forgot to give you a link to a vietnam naval webiste.

I've just found this link:

It's easier to read.

ahh viet defence well its war against the US proved that it was well trained
in jungle geurilla warfare tactics and also the brief sino viet border clash
even though china won the chinese suffered heavy military casualties which
forced the chinese to modernise the military and it went from a peoples
war as proposed by mao zedong to local wars under high tech conditions.

Vietnam too suffers from problems it is old and ageing and obviously it
relies on soviet or russian made equipment and suffers from a low projection
ability plus i'm not sure about deployment capability but obviously there's
still a long way to go.
