I have a few questions on the Sisowaths. Were they related to the actual royal family of Cambodia, a branch of it?

I also have noticed in my recent research on Cambodia that the KR killed so many members of the Sisowath royal family. Why? And were their executions carried out as with other Khmers or were they counted as part of the "Seven Traitors"?



Also, this Sisowath member caught my eye. Why was she executed? She was the youngest member. Her name is Neak Ang Mechas Sisowath Marie Josee 1956-1975.

Previously, the surname Ang was used, there was King Ang Eng, King Ang Chan, etc. The Sisowaths are just a branch that started when King Ang Duong's song King Sisowath I. His half-brother, King Norodom I, ascended the throne after King Sisowath I died. That's where the surnames Norodom and Sisowath come from, but the dynasty is still the Varman dynasty.

King Norodom Sihanouk would be Norodom III, I guess. His mother is a Sisowath. :shocked:

A lot of Sisowaths were active in politics then, probably more so than the Norodoms. Perhaps that is why more of them were murdered.

I always thought Norodom Sihanouk was considered Norodom II and his father (who reigned after him) was Norodom III Suramarit. The current king is Norodom IV, but I guess its a matter of opinion.

Wasn't Sihanouk's mother also killed in '75 by the KR? She was a Sisowath.

If you are so serious about the Cambodian royal why don't you go down to your local library? They have many books on them.

Books are more detailed and more accurate, and they will quench all your curiosities. Don't rely on internet sources. No offence intended on honest posters.

If you don't know where to start let me suggest some for you. Books by David Chandler, Ian Mabbett and Milton Osborne are sufficient.

Unfortunately, most books cover Angkor or Khmer Rouge Cambodia. I haven't found a suficient book on Sihanouk even.

If Khmer be a part of Thailand like Khmer Surin. There was not have a suffering like that. khemer will be live with peace and prosperous like Khmer in Surine.

Surin is one of the poorest provinces in Thailand.

Neighboring Cambodian Province Siem Reap surpasses Surin with just 5 yeears of delevopment while Surin Stays the same.
