My family gathers at my grandparents' house and everyone has fun. I'm still young enough to get my li xi. hehehe. My uncles gamble and get drunk ( I'm always stuck as the dealer while the other kids get to play), my aunts all go into a room and talk, and the kids play play play.

I'm not sure what my family does for tet... more than like a family gathering and lunch... probably no gambling.

For me, a nice big dinner and aftewards li xi.

When i was young, we'd go to those crazy festivals with the den truong thu (major spelling error), those lighted lantern thingys.

Pretty fun, I had to wear the traditional viet costume.

When I was little, we used to gamble inside my grandparents house. We also went to a Tet festival inside my old school. Now my grandfather is crazy so no one visits him anymore, and I think they stopped the Tet festival at my school.

The doctors claim he's crazy. He says he's crazy. But we all think he's just putting up an act because we wouldn't let him send money to whoknows in Vietnam.

Another theory is that he's possessed or cursed by people in Vietnam. Old voodoo stuff.

Yes.. and oddly my parents believe in it. I don't believe in this $hit.

I just think that he's 1) crazy or 2) trying to act crazy.

one of my girlfriends, she's vietnamese and she told me that tet is more pronounced like tut, she gets mad when i said the tet as in the "tet offensive".

No, Tet is Vietnamese new year. Vietnamese new year is celebrated the same time as Korean and Chinese new year in February (sometimes January). Thailand, Cambodia, and Laos celebrate their new year at different time, in April or May.. i forget which month.

Oh, around the Sandy Lake or Thunder Bay area ? I've been to Ottawa twice and a few times to Toronto. The weather up there is really nice in in Autumn especially the leaves changing season. I am from Texas. I used to live in Chicago though. I mainly go to Canada for the skiing. You guys sure have some awesome skiing resorts up north

My grandma and most aunts/uncles said mừng tuổi, didn't know it's more Viet.
