We know Viets stopped the Pol Pot?s utopia which the Chinese and US were supporting, the Chinese tried to invade Vietnam for 1000 years and tried to punish Viets for stopping the Pol Pot?s utopia (mass killings) so did US. Japan invaded China while Viets never tried it, just flexing its muscles sometimes to let them know we meant business and to leave us alone in peace. Korean got treated fairly well than the way US treated Viets, nothing like 3 times WWII and 80 million toxic wastes 20 years never seen hell which 10 years before to set it all up, and then further 20 years of hard embargo. So which country is like Viet Nam and has been treated so kindly by US, China.

So the important question is what do other Asians think of Viets in general, we are one country other Asians are many ???? Would your country fair better in the same situations.

Where I live at least, there's basically two kinds of Vietnamese people. Ones that love khmer people and others that despise khmers with a passion. The asians with the highest populations here are khmer and vietnamese anyway, well apart from the chinese, but those guys tend to keep to themselves. I find it very strange. I supose most people my age don't care enough about what happened back then to let it affect their perception of others as individuals, though some may be very well versed in the history itself. Actually I haven't heard of a Cambodian vs Vietnamese gang fight here for years.

I can't speak for Australia, but in the States, Chinese and Cambodians and Vietnamese just don't live in the same regions.
Chinese are concentrated in large metropolitan areas, Vietnamese are half-way, some in metro, some in less metro, and Khmer even less metro. Even living in one city, they don't live in the same neighborhoods, not because someone is staying apart but because of different socio-economic neighborhoods.
In college, everyone gets along fine.

I've got no problems with Vietnamese. Many of them are extremely friendly. Contrary to this pointless internet bickering, many Chinese and Vietnamese are good friends in real life.

Yes, I know, but in politics which has a lot to do with plenty of fanning the proverbial $hit around, some people do like to use some excuses to hate Viets even when Viets do the only good thing possible by stopping Pol Pot's utopia and murderous rampaging. Yet Chinese and US punish Viets for this act too.

Well politics tends to screw everyone over as it is it is the human trait of all nations to act out of their own self-interest and sometimes those self-interests tend to involve screwing other people over. It's sad but it's reality and inevitable. This is perhaps why people find politics the most frustrating topic in the world.

I think Vietnamese are the most obnoxious and self-absorbed asians.

ok well i'm living in oz and i'm half chinese and half japanese so this is just from my experience:

i have vietnamese friends who i find rather nice and most are either very hardworking, studious and family orientated OR the 'thugs' who hang out in areas known for smuggling, drugs, gang fights, etc (needless to say, i dont hang with these people).

this is just a general opionion because i'm sure you can't label vietnamese people into 2 specific categories.

anyhow, i do find that alot of vietnamese people take the 'pride' too far though.
they tend to ignore the truths, the faults and the bad and bash other races in order to give praise to themselves. but i think this is more seen on the internet...which really...is the case for all the other races too...

dey pretty crazy, dey usually lead the azn crews. mainly cuz der da ones always gettin into shyt wit other people. YES it gets annoying cuz we gota fight for somethin dey started. and they ALWAYS start somethin. if dey get a bad mark, dey will like...punk a white guy to feel better.

there aren't that many viets where i live. but in grade 4 this viet girl grabbed me and said she loved me she was cool. and at her house i accidentally got ketchup on her carpet but her mom wasn't mad (i did try to clean it though, i got most of it out before she told me that i didn't have to clean it) so yea, viets are cool. lol.

I live in a region [S. California/626] where Vietnamese and Chinese people get along great. In fact, many of my friends and including myself are part Vietnamese and Chinese.

I live here in north cali 916 california. Most asians seem to get along fine. Although one of my freinds told me he was at a party and some viet guys came in pulled out guns and yelled out "who's chinese in here".And they also stole some $hit from the house. So yeah theres always gonna be some haters and idiots. Which makes me wonder , why do some viets hate chinese people ??? Asian on asian violence in america is just plain dumb as fukk , we should be smarter than to hate each other , instead lets help each other out.

From history alone, Viets have been trying to live in peace with China for a thousand of years. I am not sure about the other way around. Like I have said even though Viets did the only thing it could by putting a stop to Pol's utopia and China saw it as attacking them. Again this was a ruse too.

Asian vs. Asian beef and drama is plain PATHETIC. But when it comes to Whites and Blacks vs. Asians, then those Asian azzholes who bash their fellow Asians turn around and kiss the whites and blacks azzes. Gay azz chicken shiet fukkers. There's too much uninformed, and not to mention divisive and hence useless, banter when topic questions like this are posed. Here is a SCIENTIFIC survey of how many ethnic and racial American subgroups feel about each other when it comes to intermarriage. It is quite telling since you really know how a person feels about you if they want to be related to you or not.

It is as I expected. Filipino's are most popular, then followed somewhat distantly by the Chinese, then Asian Indians, then Vietnamese. But why we Vietnamese come in last is due in large part to the many stereotypes placed upon us during the late 1980's and 1990's when the Vietnamese gang problem was pretty serious. (On the flip side of course is that, we Viets were amongst the most likely to be the victims of hate crime committed by racist whites & "ghetto" blacks during the intervening years between 1975 and 1995, or so.) This image problem for Viets is changing in our favor now. Our social economic standing is relatively high now, and the gang stuff is for the most part gone. We're no longer ghetto. There may be a lot of nail shops and what not, but were producing too many md's, dentists, engineers, pharmacists, business majors, lawyers, and other professionals, to be considered ghetto. We're affluent.

Overall, I suspect that the Koreans fair somewhere around that of us Viets and Asian Indians, and that the Japanese fair better than the Chinese by maybe 10%. Koreans had a real image problem following the 1992 LA riots as being gun-totting proprietors of liquor stores in poor black neighborhoods.

Generally speaking uptight cultures don't fair well in these types of surveys. We're Confucian, just like the Chinese, Japanese & Koreans. But our image, and wrong it is, is that we were under-achieving ghetto Confucians. Japan is on top, and many Americans drive Japanese cars and own Japanese electronics--hence they are to be much admired for their economic & scientific dominance. (For now, I would say that the Japanese are the most culturally refined--in the PC, politically correctness, sense of all NON-white countries. However, they are not quite there yet.) Asian Indians in the US are typically the upper class Brahmins, which speaks for itself. They are a pretty uptight people too. Filipinos, on the other hand, have very high social economic status (only the cream of the crop come to America, like Asian Indians, Chinese, Koreans & Japanese), but they don't have an uptight culture like Confucianist Asians or Indian Brahmins. That is, Filipinos are a rich and easy-going bunch, which is why nobody minds having them join the family, i.e. intermarriage.

People respect shallow things like wealth. But they also respect good things like an easy-going attitude. Filipinos have both; Vietnamese have neither according to stereotype. We're supposedly both poor and haughty. The worst of both worlds. Of course, Confucianists and Brahmins, by default, lack easy-goingness. (Of course, people also prefer groups with low crime rates! Affluent groups have low crime rates.)

In the past, during the days of the "Yellow Peril", Chinese were hated. Post Pearl Harbor, it was the Japanese... Things change over time. We must always keep this in mind.

Looks like what I and others have discussed with Doozer (off) had vanished. It is pitty though; it was very informative that even those that seemed to know a lot about these wars, US war on Viets and Korean war, didn't know or could not work it out for themselves.
