I've read a lot of stupid things on AF but this has to really take the cake. Is the guy who made that thread a retard? Just cause China and Japan are near each other geographically and have similiar culture doesn't mean they should unite.

By far, the 2 countries are very different. That's the problem, isn't it? China and Japan are very similiar, yet vastly different at the same time. Thats the worst kind of enemy because Chinese and Japanese see other standing in the way of them being unique.

Chinese consider themselves the civilized and leader of the Asian people whereas the Japanese see themselves as unique and superior just cause in the last 200 years or so, they managed to modernize faster than China.

Remember, it was after watching China get screwed over by foreign powers that Japan quickly decided that it needed to be strong and modernized itself.

I'm not saying China is better than Japan. Both have their own distinctness.

But the 2 countries will never get along for personal matters. For business, yes, because both countries can benefit each other but chinese and japanese will never get along.

There's too much historical baggage. Japan won't even apologize and admit their horrendous crimes in China. That's somethign that chinese will never forgive.

Can you honestly imagine the two peoples getting along?

I can see China being very close with other asian countries like Korea, Thailand, Vietnam but never Japan. Japan will always remain outside of the Asian continent. They're whole destiny is based on the US.

I hardly even consider them Asian.

I've always thought of Japan as the spoiled brat little brother than somehow became a huge success and is giving his older siblings hell for it. I always felt Japan became modern and civilized before they were even ready.

China is the true leader of Asia. AS china rises, the other Asian countries excluding Japan will rise along with it. Countries like Thailand are already basing their economic future on China.

After China gets Asia on its side, we'll give those Japanese a good scare.

The Japanese, no matter what they say, will never feel truly sorry for what they did to China in the war. And they will never truly see chinese as equals.

DR, please, before thinking about differences, think that is them that makes people strong.
Just think on a bit, and you have a case of countries that united and that are a lot different.

Japan is kinda like the UK in Europe. British don't really consider themselves part of Europe or if they do, its as a distinct entity. Its the same with the Japanese in Asia. They are Asian but they don't consider themselves in "the group."

The world has forgotten what the chinese can do. Go do some book reading boogie. While Europe was still tribal, Chinese had a flourishing civilization that dwarfed that of Japan and the rest of the world.

China has had lots of bad luck and turmoil over the last 2 centuries but give it time, and we'll show you how powerful we can become.

Quite simply we don't need Japan. China and Japan has a relationship thats only effective when were not in direct contact with one another personally I don't feel China should because were on our way to the top weather its with Japan, U.S, or Russia. It would be a nightmare if we were to unite. Were going down one road and Japan is going down another I say just let them do what they want so when we succeed in our goals as a country we can say that we did it instead of giving props to the japanese. Just like if we are to fail we can blame ourselves and not the japanese. I'm fine with China just the way it is right now and Im sure Japan feels the same!

I agree entirely, this is a stupid suggestion made probably by ignorant westerners who believe China and Japan are the same country. I've even heard Americans ask where in China I'm from when I said I am Japanese.
