Bogor’s controversial mayor says he has a new reason not to allow the GKI Yasmin church to open — the name of the street on which it is built has an Islamic name.

Home Affairs Minister Gamawan Fauzi said Bogor Mayor Diani Budiarto — who continues to defy rulings from the Supreme Court and Ombudsman Commission to open the church — had told him that a church should not be built on a street with an Islamic name.

“[Diani] said that it is a fact that the street is named after a noted Islamic Ulama,” Gamawan said at the Vice Presidential Palace on Friday.

GKI Yasmin is located on Jalan Abdullah bin Nuh, an Islamic leader from Cianjur in West Java.

Local cleric Muhammad Mustofa, whose father is the street’s namesake, has previously stated that he has no objection to the church.

Mustofa, who said that Islam was a religion that promoted peace, said differences between religions were not new and similar problems had occurred since the time of Prophet Mohammad.

“Mecca is an example of pluralism during the prophet’s time. Every problem has its solution and hopefully the problem [surrounding the church] will be settled immediately,” he said.

Gamawan also indicated on Friday that he was siding with Diani in the dispute with the church.

“This is the political reality in the field and it could cause disturbances to security and peace,” Gamawan said. “It would not be healthy in the long run, even for the congregation members themselves. [Diani] told me that he has offered an alternative location with the same [dimensions].”

Gamawan said he would summon Diani next week to discuss possible solutions to the conflict.

“We need to mediate ... but we also need to maintain security and peace,” Gamawan said.

Church spokesman Bona Sigalingging said Diani’s reasoning was unacceptable given that a number of churches were built on streets with Islamic names and mosques were built on streets with Christian names.

Bona said the church would refuse to accept any offer of alternative premises.

“The problem is it against the law, against the court ruling and against the recommendation of Ombudsman. It also breaches legal certainty.”

Ombudsman Commission chairman Danang Girindrawardana told the Jakarta Globe on Friday that the street name issue was a “made-up excuse.”

He said the Ombudsman’s recommendation was legally binding, with the Regional Representative Council (DPRD) and Home Affairs minister having the power to enforce sanctions.

He said he hoped the Home Affairs Ministry would uphold the law and impose serious sanctions.

Diani is supported by a coalition of political parties that includes the Golkar Party, Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and Prosperous Justice Party (PKS).

Another lovely example of Islamic and Indon Muslims' tolerance and peace. We are labelled haters for posting such shameful factual event by Indon/Bolehland Muslims. It seems Islam and Muslims are beyond reproached and can not be criticised least of all by non Muslims, which is another example their so called 'tolerance'

More of the so call tolerance and peaceful nature of Indon Muslims on displayed. Of course nothing new to this sort of intolerance. It is typical and these Muslims including Diani Budiarto are just being good Muslim as prescribed in their Quran, that is show no tolerance or mercy to the infidels. If you are a Muslim reading this, you should know their objection against infidels building their church on an Islamic street is correct, know your Quran and it's content. If you don't think they are correct and they are just being nasty radicals and intolerant, then you best shuffle back to the nearest madrasah fast!

FAITH
INDONESIAN MUSLIMS CONTINUE TO FORBID CHRISTIANS FROM BUILDING CHURCH ON STREET WITH ISLAMIC NAME

In what is being called a national test of religious tolerance, Muslims in Indonesia’s West Java province are continuing to block Christian worshipers from building a church, namely because the future edifice would stand on a street with an Islamic name.

As The Blaze reported last month, local mayor Diani Budiarto is refusing to comply with a supreme court ruling to allow the congregation to build its church, choosing to defer to the wishes of the Muslim majority.

The national ombudsman has reportedly given the mayor two weeks to implement the supreme court’s decision and allow the church to be built, a move that has not stopped protestors from decrying the Christian worshipers’ plans.

“Why does a church need to build in a street with an Islamic name? Why do they need to build a church in an Islamic neighborhood?” one protester asked.

However, in a country where the dominant religion is Islam such as Indonesia, there are bound to be more neighborhoods and streets are bound to bear Islamic names than not.

Meanwhile, the province’s Christians still must resort to hold services in the open air, protected by police.

Sad, sad but true. I agree with Chutz for once, still not agree on the term he's using
Eventhough I love my muslim friends, I don't even have to ask, I know that they/their family rather not have churches being built in Indo. They don't mind us worshipping someone else but their allah, but it shouldn't offend them/their religion in any way.
We have to acknowlegde that islam is the majority and kinda respect their values, but there's a thin line. indo has 5 religions that are acknowledged (i think 6 now, with shintoism?) and we all should get our equal rights, none should suffer from the other values and beliefs. Indo people should really live by 'bhinekka tunggal ika" for once. But unfortunately most indo people are low educated and dont know how to live in peace and respect with other kinds. the goverment cant handle all of them (250 mil inhabitants) plus the goverment is corrucpt herself, they just sit back and watch how the people will solve it by them selfs.

anyway, this thread is trolling. if it's serious then post it in the indo serious talk, not here

mods can u move this or delete this thread?
