Chinese New Year and Vietnamese New Year are celebrated on the same day.. they do the same thing (traditionally) etc... but yeah.. same thing

I tell everyone I know it's called Lunar New Year since the Chinese are not the only ones celebrating their New Year in Feb... I think some Koreans do too.. correct me if I'm wrong.

before westerners came along, east asia used chinese calendar, that's why it's called chinese new year outside of china.

you might've never thought about it, but people didn't always use the western calendar like we do today.

Actually Vietnamese New Year is a little different from Chinese new, but yeah, Vietnamese New Year was Evolve from Chinese New year due to the 1000 yrs brutality.

I don't really know much with without researching, but In Chinese New year, you will get Money as long as you're not married. But with Vietnamese New Year, well. Let’s just say you will stop getting it when you reach your maturity.

We don't call it khmer-chinese new year. Its just Chinese new year, and only the khmer with chinese ancestors celebrate it.

Khmer new year and Chinese new year are two seperate things.

Thailand, Burma, Loas(?) and Cambodia celebrate Khmer new year, or whatever they call it in their own countries.

Rei, Vietnameses living in Vietnam never refer newyear as chinese newyear. People only use the term chinese newyear here in the West to make the distinction between one on Chinese Lunar Calender and one on Western Gregorian Calendar.

In the US maybe but definately not in Vietnam. We called it "Tết". It's the biggest festival activity, nothing else in compare.

i don't know about other people, but i only celebrate certain holidays, like christmas, halloween, valentine is just a chance to make my moves or impress, and thanksgiving (kinda....). But for the most part i don't care for any of these days: independence, mlk, mother's, fathers, st. patrick, columbus, veterans...thats all i can think now.

But during te't ta (our new year) we would bust out left over fireworks and randomly burned them. neighbors probably though we were nuts. not that we arent already.

I call it Lunar New Year because that's exactly what it is. Contrary to what some of the Chinese posters believe, Chinese New Year is not their own because other people celebrate it too.

It's all Lunar New Years, but we call it Chinese for short
