Which of these communist capitals do you all think is more beautiful? Why?
samnang
i'd say pyongyang is one of the ugliest and dreariest cities on earth. it's probably only beaten by prypiat, where chernobyl happened.

just look at this giant jagged spike oppressively towering over everything. it makes you think of torture and impalement.

Pyongyong is NOT communist. They are a dictatorship run by a family - basicaly a patriarchy.

i think that building is more complete now

Happy Asian
Pyongyang is an artificial socialist theme park; it seems almost lifeless. Hanoi is way better.

Hanoi.
Hanoi sounds like a less torturing communist city than Pyongyang.
But I may be wrong. I haven't been to neither of places.

Hanoi.

Pyongyang is actually a massive theatre set, so many nice buildings, but completely vacant since I doubt many N. Koreans except elite officials can afford such expensive buildings (at least in N. Korean standards).

Pyongyang I think it's nice, but in the Stalinists era 1990's building nice. It's very old, probably Hanoi is more updated and modern looking.

what about some pics? icon_smile.gif

Are we comparing buildings or people? I think Hanoi wins for both but I do think N. Korean girls are beautiful.

Why is this question even asked? Anyone with a brain would say Hanoi is better.

Vietnam's inflation rate is 19%... That's really unheard of...

I don't think Vietnam is going to be rich anytime soon.
Elite4
Imagine of the price of $hit starts rising 19%, I'll be pooping all day if that was the case. I'd get more money selling $hit, I'd be rich in Vietnam.

See how unique and free we could be without the grip of globalisation.

The possibilities in a world where our destinies are not interfered with.

This statement would have more effect if that building were not built by a foreign (Egyptian) company.

Because PyongYang is the only East Asian city that Hanoi has a chance of beating.

Many websites rank Hanoi 6th - 10th among best tourist cities in Asia.

Give us a break will you. When Vietnam was busy saving Cambodia from Chinese Pol Pot, China started to make Nike shoes for Americans, so today the average Chinese wealth is more than Vietnam's.

In the 1960s, thousands of Chinese escaped China into Vietnam because of famine even though Vietnam is in the middle of a war. That's how it is.

Quit gloating will you.

Not very good comparison, Pyongyang only have about 3 million while Hanoi have 6 million, so it's already twice the size in population beside, very few tourists are even allowed to enter Pyongyang. Pyongyang is city of North Korean elites + 1 million army, it's basically one of the biggest fortress rather than city. I think Pyongyang have better under ground facilities such as subway and bunkers and that's probably only thing Pyongyang can offer other than restaurants and harems for Kim's family and Kim's disciples. Virtually nobodies lives there, it's propaganda city.

I understand your point but 3 million is a lot of people... that's over 12% of NK's population... in contrast, Hanoi contains less than 7% of Vietnam's population...

Pyongyang looks like it came from a horror movie.
TheThirteenth
Looks just like Hoa Lu Capital of Dai Viet in the past, a great city with full of Soldiers and military services and its also where the Dinh and Le Emperor lived...

scary, but somehow interesting.
XigonCongchua
Without knowing that it's a dictatorial capital, I would think Pyongyang looks quite nice. It looks better planned than Hanoi.

The images there represent the city after the Korean war, where the city was quickly rebuilt with the Soviet's help, with many buildings built in Socialist Classicism, featuring extensive parks, broad boulevards, and high-rise apartments.

On the other hand, Hanoi's main city center contains buildings from hundreds to thousands of years ago. If you were to strictly compare city planning than you ought to check out Hanoi's new urban areas being under construction.

there are some unflattering pics of Pyongyang that shows poverty and unplannedness as well that the government doesn't want the world to see...
