Well, I was thinking about learning the Hmong alphabet, Phaj Hauj, but my grandmother told me that when her sister took a long time ago, before they start writing they would worship their god, demon, or whatever. I was just wondering if this is true because I'm Hmong and i would like to learn it because i think it would be neat to learn and also because it is pretty much the only alphabet us Hmong people have, but I'm a christian and the part about worshiping demons and other gods doesn't sound very nice for me. It would be nice if you guys could help answer this to see if it was true although it might seem silly. Another thing is that my dad says my grandma doesn't know what she's talking about, so I'm not quite sure who is right.

learning this style does not mean ur worshiping religion, this is just a writing system, and not to be mean but most old people don't have facts but only beliefs and bias opinions so i say go for it learn it, if ur relating demons as our religion then u got it wrong if that was what ur talking about but learning it would not harm u at all, it is a newly created writing system most hmongs stick with romanized alphabets but good ur trying phaj hauj

There are other scripts where, in order for their scholars to teach you, you must be a part of their religion..otherwise it's kept secret.....but Pahawh, is no longer secret. It's VERY EASY to learn if you already know RPA. Everything you need to know to learn it yourself is online...and no..there's nothing magical about it...

Learn it here:

http://www.omniglot.com/writing/hmong.htm

Basically, take the consonant and put it after the vowel/tone indicator to spell your word...VOILA! Simple as that!

Don't believe me? See for yourself:

This word above means "Hmoob" ...Now look at the charts on the omniglot link above and try to find which symbols look just like those two in the image above...THAT'S HOW IT WORKS! beerchug.gif
